Nelson, 22nd January, 1868.

MR. JOHN SCOTT is hereby authorised, under the provisions of Section XIII of "The Goldfields Act, 1866," to construct a track from the Orowaiti Lagoon to the Caledonian Terrace, of a length of about six miles and a width of twenty feet, and to charge, for a period of six months, from 1st January, 1868, tolls as per Schedule, on the following conditions:—

  1. That the track shall be maintained at all times in a good state of repair.
  2. That the track shall not at any place approach nearer than one chain to the track granted to Malcolm Stevenson.
  3. That any other person at any time on payment of a proportionate share of the expense of construction of the track at a valuation, may become a part proprietor in it.
  4. That this protection shall not interfere with any ground held under any existing rights and privileges, nor prejudice the right of the Government to cut any other track, or to grant protection for any other track, provided that no protection shall be granted for any track to approach nearer than one chain to this one.
  5. That Government Officers on duty may use the track free of charge.
  6. That this protection shall not be transferred without the sanction of the Commissioner or other Officer in charge of the goldfields.

SCHEDULE OF TOLLS.
For each horse loaded ... 3s. 0d.
" head of large cattle ... 2s. 0d.

MR. BENJAMIN GOUGH is hereby authorised, under the provisions of Section XIII of "The Goldfields Act, 1866," to place upon the river Grey, near its junction with the Ahaura, a self-acting punt, travelling upon a wire rope across the river; and he is protected in the sole right of ferrying on the Grey and also on the Ahaura, within one mile of the confluence of those rivers, for a period of three years, from the 1st day of January, 1868, and authorised to charge tolls as per Schedule, on the following conditions:—

  1. That a good safe boat, and a competent ferryman, shall be at all times in attendance at the Ahaura ferry, and the punt be kept in good working order, with a competent person in attendance on the Grey ferry.

  2. That all Government officers on duty, including Postmen and Road Overseers, be ferried free of charge.

  3. That the Rate of Tolls, according to Schedule, shall be charged only until June 30th, 1868, and shall after that date, should there be any considerable increase in the traffic, be reduced to such rates as may be considered fair and reasonable by the Goldfields Commissioner.

  4. That this Protection shall not be transfered without the sanction of the Commissioner, or other Officer in charge of the Goldfields.

MR. ALEXANDER MONTGOMERY is hereby authorised under the provisions Section XIII of "The Goldfields Act, 1866," to form a towing track on the bank of the river Grey, from Cobden to the Ahaura, for the purpose of tracking boats on the river; and he is also authorised to charge from November 1st 1867 to 31st December 1868, a toll of ten shillings (10s.) for each horse towing boats on the following conditions.

  1. That the track shall be at all times maintained in a good state of repair.
  2. That any person at any time on payment of an equitable sum proportioned to the expense of forming the track to be estimated by valuators appointed by the parties interested, shall be entitled to the free use of the track.
  3. That the track shall, if required, be given up to the Government at a valuation.
  4. That the track shall not interfere with or encroach upon any existing rights and privileges.
  5. That this protection shall not be transferred without the sanction of the Goldfields Commissioner.

Each passenger from sunrise to sunset, 1s. each way.
