PROVINCE OF WESTLAND GAZETTE.
the said portion of the Colony immediately
before the coming into operation of the said
"Province of Westland Act, 1873," shall,
so far as applicable, and except so far as the
same are altered or repealed by the said
"Province of Westland Act, 1873," be and
continue in force within the said new Province constituted by the said "Province of
Westland Act, 1873," until altered or repealed by the General Assembly; or as to
such of the said Laws or Ordinances as are
for such purposes for which Provincial
Councils may make laws, and as to such as
the Legislature of the Province constituted
by the said "Province of Westland Act,
1873," is authorised by the said "Province
of Westland Act, 1873," to repeal, then
until altered or repealed either by the
General Assembly or by the Provincial
Legislature of the Province constituted by
the said "Province of Westland Act, 1873,"
or by other lawful authority:
And whereas a requisition to the effect
that the said "Canterbury Police Ordinance" should be brought into operation
within that portion of the town of Greymouth, described as Native Reserves Nos.
31 and 32, has been presented to me, James
Alexander Bonar, Superintendent of the Province of Westland, and such requisition has
been signed by a majority of the Justices of
the Peace within the town of Greymouth:
Now therefore, I, James Alexander Bonar,
Superintendent of the Province of Westland,
by and with the advice and consent of the
Executive Council of the said Province, do
hereby proclaim and declare that the said
"Canterbury Police Ordinance" shall be,
and the same is, hereby brought into operation in that portion of the town of Greymouth described as Native Reserves Nos.
31 and 32.

this 30th day of June, 1874.

Defining Roads from Stillwater Creek Bridge
to Maori Gully, and from Hokitika to the
old Blue Spur Township, in the Province
of Westland.

A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by "The Immigration and
Public Works Act, 1870," it is,
amongst other things, enacted that the
Governor, from time to time, by Proclamation published in the New Zealand Gazette,
may, as to parts within the North Island of
New Zealand, define the roads and the
boundaries thereof, and the bridges and
ferries which shall be and be deemed to be
roads, bridges, or ferries, as the case may
be, under the provisions of the said Act, and
any such Proclamation may include existing
roads, but no such roads or parts of roads
shall be included if they are, in the opinion
of the Governor in Council, roads which
should be constructed by the Superintendent
and the Provincial Council of the Province
wherein such roads are situated, as well as
new road lines; and the Governor from time
to time may revoke or alter any such Proclamation: And whereas by "The Immigration and Public Works Act, 1872," it is,
among other things, enacted that all the
provisions contained in Part I. and Part VI.
of "The Immigration and Public Works
Act, 1870," shall be applicable to the County
of Westland and the Nelson South-West
Gold Fields, and may be adapted and used
with reference to those portions of the
Colony, as if such portions had formed part
of the North Island: And whereas it is
expedient that the roads mentioned and
defined in the Schedules hereto should be
constructed under the said Acts: And
whereas, in the opinion of the Governor of
the Colony of New Zealand, and the
Executive Council of New Zealand, the said
roads are not roads which should be
constructed by the Superintendent and
the Provincial Council of the Province of
Westland:
Now therefore, I, Sir James Fergusson,
Baronet, the Governor of the Colony of New
Zealand, in exercise and pursuance of the
power and authority in me vested by the
said Acts, and of every other power and
authority enabling me in that behalf, do
hereby proclaim and declare that the roads
within the Province of Westland described,
and the boundaries whereof are set forth in
