PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by an Ordinance of the Superintendent and Provincial Council of the Province of Canterbury intituled "The Canterbury Police Ordinance, 1858," Session X., No. 1, it is provided that it shall be lawful for the Superintendent, by Proclamation, to declare the said Ordinance to be in operation within any town upon a requisition to that effect from a majority of the Justices of the Peace of the District in which such town is situate:

And whereas by the fifth Section of the "County of Westland Act, 1868," it is enacted that until other provision shall be made in that behalf by the General Assembly, or other lawful authority, the Laws and Ordinances of the Superintendent and Provincial Council of the Province of Canterbury mentioned in the second Schedule to the said Act, except so far as the same have been repealed, altered, or varied by the "County of Westland Act, 1867," or since the coming into operation of the "County of Westland Act, 1867," or by "The County of Westland Act, 1868," shall remain in force within the said County so far as the same are applicable:

And whereas the said "Canterbury Police Ordinance, 1858," is included in the second Schedule to the "County of Westland Act, 1868":

And whereas by the fourth Section of the "Province of Westland Act, 1873," it is enacted that within that portion of the Colony constituted a Province by the now recited Act, the Laws and Ordinances specified in the Schedule to "The County of Westland Act, 1868," so far as in force in
