Now therefore, His Excellency Sir George Ferguson Bowen, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority vested in him by the said in part recited Act, in accordance with the terms of the said resolutions, and by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Colony, doth hereby proclaim that the blocks of land described in the Schedule hereto are set apart and reserved to establish settlements for colonization upon the terms in the said seventy-eighth section mentioned.

SCHEDULE.

BLOCK I.

Comprising fifty thousand (50,000) acres, and extending from the Haast River to a point two (2) miles south of the Arawata River; bounded on the East by a line three and a quarter (3¼) miles distant, and generally parallel to the coast; on the South by Smoothwater Bay River.

BLOCK II.

Comprising twenty thousand (20,000) acres; bounded on the north-west by the sea-coast; on the north-east by the Mikonui River; on the south-east by a line two (2) miles from, and generally parallel to, sea coast; and on the south-west by the Wanganui River; exclusive of reserves and gold workings.

BLOCK III.

Comprising fifty thousand (50,000) acres; commencing at the mouth of the Saltwater River; following a line due south for seventeen (17) miles; thence due west to the Mapouriki Lake; thence along the banks of the Mapouriki Lake, and along the Okarito River to peg 27 of Okarito River traverse; thence following a line generally parallel to the sea coast to the north of the Saltwater River; exclusive of reserves and gold workings.

Appointing a Justice of the Peace under ‘The Municipal Corporations Act, 1867.’

G. F. BOWEN, Governor.

WHEREAS by the one hundred and thirty-third section of an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand, intituled ‘The Municipal Corporations Act, 1867,’ it is enacted that it shall be the duty of the Town Clerk of every borough, as soon as conveniently may be after every election of a Mayor for such borough, to give notice to the Colonial Secretary for the time being of such election, and of the person elected; and it shall be lawful for the Governor, if he shall think fit, and if such person shall not then be a Justice of the Peace, by warrant under his hand published in ‘The New Zealand Gazette,’ to appoint such person to be a Justice of the Peace for the Colony; and it is also thereby enacted that in every such appointment it shall be expressed that it is made under the one hundred and thirty-third section of the said Act; and it is further declared that such appointment shall continue in force only during the Mayoralty of such person; and the person so appointed shall not, by virtue of such appointment, be authorized to sit or act as a Justice of the Peace elsewhere than within the borough.
