IT is hereby notified for general information,
that
Peter Dungan, Esq.,
has been declared duly elected for the Paroa
Electoral District, in the room of James
Hamilton, Esq., resigned.

Special Settlements in Westland.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government Buildings, at Wellington, this eighteenth day of December, 1872.
Present:
The Honourable the Premier, Presiding,
and Members of the Executive Council.
WHEREAS, by "The Westland Waste
Lands Act, 1870," provision is made
for the formation of special settlements within
the County of Westland, in the unoccupied
parts thereof, for colonization, in order to
advance the development and prosperity of
the said County: And whereas by the
seventy-eighth section of the said Act, it is
provided that it shall be lawful for the Governor
in Council, upon a resolution passed by an
absolute majority of the County Council,
from time to time to declare, by Proclamation
in "The New Zealand Gazette," that certain
blocks of land within the said County, south
of the Mikonui River, as prescribed in such
Proclamation, are set apart and reserved
to establish settlements for colonization upon
terms in the said section specified: And
whereas a resolution of the County Council
was passed by an absolute majority of such
Council on the seventeenth day of February,
one thousand eight hundred and seventy-one,
to the effect that the block of land, as recommended by the Report of the Committee on
Southern Settlements, be set apart and
reserved for the purpose of establishing a
special settlement under Part II. of "The
Westland Waste Lands Act, 1870:" And
whereas another resolution of the said
Council was passed by an absolute majority
of such Council on the sixteenth day of
August, 1871, to the effect "That in the
opinion of this Council it is desirable that
Blocks, Nos. 2 and 3, south of the Mikonui,
be set apart under section seventy-eight,
βWestland Waste Lands Act, 1870,β as
special settlements in the County of Westland:" And whereas the blocks of land described in the Schedule hereto are the blocks
of land referred to in the said resolution, and
it is expedient that the said resolutions should
be given effect to:
