Each Company, applying for a guarantee, shall be registered, or be in course of registration, under "The Mining Companies Limited Liability Act, 1865."

Each Race, which shall be constructed under those regulations, shall be constructed and maintained under the supervision, and subject to the approval of the Mining Engineer of the County and Mining Surveyor of the district.

The capital of each Race Company, applying to the Council for a guarantee, shall be not less than Β£10,000.

No Company shall be guaranteed unless the race, to be constructed by it, shall be first approved by a Board, to be appointed by the Council, consisting of three of its members (not including the Chairman), the Mining Engineer of the County, and another Engineer not employed by the Government.

The water brought in by any Company obtaining the guarantee of the Council shall be sold to the miners at rates to be fixed by the Council in each case.

No Company shall receive a guarantee except on a vote of the Council.

In case the Council be called upon to pay any guarantees, made under, or by virtue of, these regulations, and have to pay the same, the property held by the Company, for whom the said guarantee shall be paid as aforesaid, shall become the property of the County Council and inhabitants of the County of Westland, in the same degree, and to the same extent, as the said property was held by the said Company at the time of the forfeiture of the said guarantee.

IT is hereby notified that His Excellency the Governor, by virtue of the powers vested in him by "The Weights and Measures Act, 1868," has directed that authorised copies of the Standard Weights and Measures issued, and to be issued, under the said Act to the Inspector of Weights and Measures for the County of Westland, shall be kept in the office occupied by the Inspector of Weights and Measures, on the Government Reserve, beside the Land Office, Hokitika.

WHEREAS by the twelfth section of "The Marine Act, 1867," the Governor is empowered to appoint all pilots, and to provide for the maintenance of pilot establishments, and to regulate the duties and conduct of pilots:
And whereas, by an Order in Council, dated the third day of March, 1869, His Excellency Sir George Ferguson Bowen, the Governor of New Zealand, did delegate to me, Conrad Hoos, Chairman of the County Council, the powers under sections seven, twelve, thirteen, seventeen, and forty-two of the said Act, within the County of Westland.
Now, therefore, I, Conrad Hoos, in exercise of the powers vested in me in that behalf under the twelfth section of "The Marine Act, 1867," do hereby appoint

Deputy Harbour Master, at Hokitika, to be the Pilot for the Port of Hokitika.
Given under my hand, at Hokitika, this ninth day of April, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-nine.

WE, the undersigned, Commissioners of the Waste Lands Board of the County of Westland, under authority of a Proclamation issued by His Excellency the Governor, dated the twenty-fifth day of November, 1868, do hereby withdraw from sale the lands described in the Schedule hereto annexed.
Given under our hands, at Hokitika, this sixth day of April, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-nine.

Bounded on the Northward by a line thirty-two chains distant from and parallel to the Southern boundary of Reserve, No. 280, in red (Greymouth); on the West by Railway and Road Reserve, No. 6, in red; on the South by a line forty chains South of the point of intersection of Saltwater Creek with Reserve, No. 6, in red, and bearing 105Β° (magnetic); and on the East by a line forty chains distant from and generally parallel to the said Reserve.
