The undersigned members of the said Mining Drainage Board concurred in making the foregoing alteration to the abovenamed Bye Law.

BYE LAW No. 8.
At a Meeting of the Mining Drainage Board of the District of Jones’s Flat, begun and holden at Ross, in the said district, on the 30th day of November, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-nine, it is enacted as follows:—
That is to say:—
Whereas the Mining Drainage Board of the District of Jones’s Flat, did grant, upon the application of the Ross United Steam Drainage Company (Limited), a Drainage Area on the 21st day of July, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-nine, and for the purposes as provided for in Bye Law No. 2 of the said Board, Clause No. 4:
Now, therefore, the said Mining Drainage Board for the said District, as aforesaid, do enact that an equal rate of fourpence shall be levied weekly upon all rateable areas within the Drainage Area granted as aforesaid, payment of such rate to be due and payable to the Clerk of the said Board, at his office, Revell-street, on the 7th day of January, one thousand eight hundred and seventy, and such weekly payments to continue to be made until further notice.

PROCLAMATION.
I, Conrad Hoos, Chairman of the County Council of Westland, do hereby give notice that I have this day granted protection to the Hokitika and Kanieri Tramway Company, under the Regulations made by the County Council, and published in the County of Westland Gazette, No. 7, of the 24th March, 1869, for their line of Tramway from Hokitika to Kanieri, being a distance of about three miles. And also that I have authorised the collection of the Tolls specified in the Schedule hereto annexed, by the said Company for the period of one year, from the 1st day of December, 1869.
Provided that the Government may, should it be deemed advisable, construct a road which may cross the line of Tramway, or run parallel to the same, for a distance of one mile, without being liable to pay compensation to the Company.
Whereas by the one hundred and thirty-third section of an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand, intituled “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1867,” it is enacted that it shall be the duty of the Town Clerk of every borough, as soon as conveniently may be, after every election of a Mayor for such borough, to give notice to the Colonial Secretary for the time being of such election, and of the person elected; and it shall be lawful for the Governor, if he shall think fit, and it such person shall not then be a Justice of the Peace, by warrant under his hand published in the New Zealand Gazette, to appoint such person to be a Justice of the Peace for the Colony; and it is also thereby enacted that
