  1. That when the ship was at
    anchor there was not the despatch
    given that should have been; that the
    tug brought off the first boat and re-
    turned for the second which was not
    ready; and that had three boats been
    launched at daybreak, the tug ought
    to have taken them off, as the direction
    of the wind would have enabled the
    boats to pull in shore, if properly
    manned, and that the greater portion
    of the immigrants (if not the whole)
    might have been landed, but without
    luggage. They would not have been
    landed without the risk of being
    drenched.—I have, &c.,

NOTICE APPOINTING TIME FOR
PAYMENT OF ROAD RATES.

Superintendent's Office,
New Plymouth, September 1, 1875.

IN exercise of the power vested in me
by "The Roads and Bridges Ordi-
nance, 1858," I hereby appoint that
the Rates imposed under the provisions
of the said Ordinance on all lands within
the Districts hereinunder specified, shall
be paid at the Provincial Treasury,
Mount Eliot, as follows, viz.:—1st,
2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th,
10th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th,
16th, 17th, 19th, 20th, 21st, 22nd,
23rd, 24th, 25th, and 26th, on SATUR-
DAY, the 2nd October.

The Rates for the latter three Dis-
tricts may be paid to Mr. WILLIAM
COWERN, of Carlyle, Patea.

of Inglewood, as shown on the map of
the Chief Surveyor of the Province,
are hereby set apart to be sold for cash
by public auction:—

102, 115, 125, 130, 138, 143, 152, 157,
163, 164, 165, 170, 180, 192, 199, 207,
232, 233, 234, 235, 236, 237, 302, 314,
326, 340, 351, 362.

NOTICE.

SALE OF TOWN LANDS.

THE attention of persons desirous of
purchasing Allotments in the Town
of Inglewood is directed to the 36th
Clause of "The Taranaki Waste Lands
Act, 1874," by which it is provided—
"That all Town lands shall be sold by
auction, but that the Board may
sanction the sale without auction of
Town lands offered, but not sold at
auction, thirty days after notice to that
effect has been published in the Pro-
vincial Gazette. But if, before the end
of the thirty days, more than one
application is received for any allotment,
it must again be submitted to auction.
