Queen, Defender of the Faith.
To JOHN RANDALL CAREY,
ALFRED WILLIAM GILLES and
LOUIS BINGES GILLES, all of
Invercargill, in the Province
of Southland, in New Zealand,
Auctioneers and Cattle Sales-
men, carrying on business under
the style or firm of CAREY and
GILLES, and WILLIAM YOUNG,
of the same place, Draper,
trading under the style or firm
of W. YOUNG & Co.

WHEREAS an action is now pend-
ing in our Supreme Court of
New Zealand, at Invercargill, be-
tween William Miller of Invercargill aforesaid,
Merchant, Plaintiff, and Charles Watt,
late of Invercargill, aforesaid,
Merchant, Defendant; and in order that the Plain-
tiff may proceed in his action, We com-
mand you, and each of you, that you do
retain and keep all and singular land and
hereditaments, moneys, and chattels, bills,
bonds, and other property of whatsoever
nature, in the custody or under the con-
trol of you, or either of you, at the time
of the service of this writ belonging to
the said Charles Watt, or to us, in which
the said Defendant shall at that time be
legally or equitably entitled, or otherwise
beneficially interested in, and whether
solely or jointly with any other person
or persons, and all debts of any kind
then due by you, or either of you, to the
said Defendant, although the same or any
part thereof may become due and payable on a future day.

And we further command you, that
you and each of you in your own proper
persons, be and appear before such Judge
of our said Supreme Court, as shall be
sitting in Chambers, on Wednesday,
the fifth day of October next, at Eleven
O’clock in the forenoon, and there to be
examined touching the premises, and to
do and receive what shall then and there
be considered of you in that behalf, and
this you shall in nowise omit.

A PROCLAMATION,
Altering the time for taking the Census
in 1864.

By His Excellency Sir GEORGE
GREY, Knight, Commander
of the Most Honourable
Order of the Bath, Gover-
nor and Commander-in-
Chief in and over Her
Majesty’s Colony of New
Zealand, and its Depen-
dencies, and Vice-Admiral
of the same, &c., &c., &c.

WHEREAS by the “Census Act,
1858,” it is provided that the
account of the number and condition of
the Population of New Zealand, and of
the Live Stock, and of the Cultivations
therein, respectively, which the said Act
directs to be taken in every third year
succeeding the year One thousand eight
hundred and fifty-eight, shall be taken in
the month of December, and that the
forms of Returns for obtaining the re-
quired information shall be delivered by
the several Sub-Enumerators at the
Dwelling-houses in their respective Sub-
Districts between the first and twenty-
fourth days of December (both inclusive),
in the years appointed, and that the said
forms shall be demanded and received by
such Sub-Enumerators on the twenty-
sixth day of December, or as soon after
as practicable:

And whereas it is further provided by
the “Census Act Amendment Act, 1860,”
that it shall be lawful for the Governor
in Council to appoint any other month,
or any other day or days for the pur-
poses above cited in the year One thou-
sand eight hundred and sixty-four, or in
any or every third year after, instead of
the month or the day or days appointed
by the “Census Act, 1858,” and the time
or times so appointed by the Governor
in Council shall be declared by Proclama-
tion in the New Zealand Gazette, and
also that all the provisions of “The
Census Act, 1858,” relating to taking an
account of the Population of New Zea-
land...
