WAIPORI ROAD BOARD.

TENDERS are invited by the above Board up till noon, 5th February, 1876, for the following works:—

Pitching and gravelling 50 chains more or less, Main District Road, Maungatua.
Specification on application to the undersigned.

Gravelling 50 chains, more or less, Waipori Flat.
Specification to be seen on application to Mr. R. Petrie.

Boxes and other works, Waihola West.
Specifications to be seen on application to Mr. Joseph Graham.

Tenders to be addressed, Chairman, Waipori Road Board, Lake Waipori.

WANTED Tenders. The Waikouaiti Road Board invite Tenders for the following works:—

Contract No. 10, Murray’s Road, Merton. Plans and Specifications to be seen at Mr. Brunton’s House, Merton; and for formation, &c., of Upper part of Potarua Road, through Mr. Reid’s Paddock. Plans and Specifications to be seen at Mr. Brunton’s.

Contract No. 12, on Down’s Road, Beaconsfield. Plans and Specifications to be seen at Mr. James Pouller’s house.

Offers for the several works to be sent to the Chairman, Merton Post Office, not later than 2nd February, at 12 noon.

The Board is not bound to accept the highest or any offer.

ONE HUNDRED POUNDS REWARD.

MURDER.

WHEREAS, Martin Cunningham is charged on warrant, with having, on or about the 25th of November, 1875, at Lake Ohau, murdered one Hugh Hannah: This is to notify that a reward of £100 will be paid to any person who shall first give such information to the Police as will lead to the arrest and conviction of the said Martin Cunningham.

Description of Martin Cunningham, better known as “Martin:” An Englishman, but looks not unlike a half-caste, a sailor and station hand, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, stout square build, broad round flat face, swarthy complexion, ill-looking, black or very dark brown hair inclined to curl at ends, black whiskers, beard, and moustache, tattooed on both arms and back of hands, ship in full sail on one arm and a name underneath it, believed also to have anchor on muscle of left arm, and a small cut or scar on back of head, walks with his arms wide from body; when last seen, he wore an old brown felt hat with leather strap round it, hat cut in two or three places, through which the strap was passed; dark brown or black single-breasted coat, slit about the hips; bluish tweed vest, moleskin trousers with a small blue stripe down seam, and water-tight boots.

He is believed to have arrived in Port Chalmers by the ship “Jura,” twelve years ago. He has worked for some years on the West Coast road, and was generally employed on stations, knows the back country well, and has lived amongst the Natives in the North Island.

STRAYED, an Upstanding Light Harness Bay HORSE, branded H on the near shoulder; was last seen on the road to Waikouaiti. Any person returning him to the undersigned will receive the above reward, and any person detaining him after this notice will be prosecuted.

THREE POUNDS REWARD.

STRAYED, from Forbury, about the 20th of November, a Dark Bay HORSE; hind fetlock white; no brands. Any person returning the same to Martin and Watson, Stuart-street, will receive the above reward.


FIFTEEN POUNDS REWARD.

THE undersigned, having been robbed of three £20 notes at Ettrick, on 1st January, 1876, issued by the Bank of New Zealand, Dunedin, and numbered 007,350, 002,172, and 006,736, hereby caution the public not to take those or either of them as payment or otherwise as the circulation of those said notes are stopped at the Bank. Further, anyone giving information that will lead to recovery and conviction of thief, a reward of 10 per cent. and 15 per cent. respectively will be paid.

IMPOUNDED on the 11th day of January, 1876, by F. Pogston, Barewood Station, 1 brown mare, branded like SA, off shoulder. Owner unknown, for trespassing on Barewood Station, for which £1 driving expenses is claimed, and in default of being released, the above mare will be sold at the Public Pound, on Friday, the 4th day of February, 1876, at twelve o’clock noon.

IMPOUNDED on the 16th day of January, 1876, by the Inspector of Nuisances, Bay Pony, Mare, black legs, white off hind foot, small star, no brands, owner unknown, for trespassing within bounds of Invercargill, and in default of being released, the above animal will be sold at the Public Pound at Invercargill, on Friday, the 4th day of February, 1876, at twelve o’clock noon.
