Fares by time for licensed carriage drawn by more than one horse.
For the first, second, and third hour, (5s.) five shillings
per hour; for every subsequent hour, (4s.) four shillings per hour; half and quarter hours at same rates.
Fares by distance for licensed carriage drawn by one horse.
For half-a-mile, or any less distance ... 1 0
For a mile, or any less distance more than half-a-mile 1 6
For every half-a-mile or fractional part of half-a-mile 0 9
Any person calling or sending for any licensed carriage, and not further employing same, exclusive of detention, charge ... 1 0

Providing always that the only authorised fare for conveying any passenger, by any licensed hackney carriage or borough stage carriage, from Princes street city stand, or any intermediate stage, to the Water of Leith toll-bar, or the reverse (by way of George street, Frederick street, and Great King street) shall be 6d.

The only authorised fare for conveying any passenger, by any licensed hackney carriage or borough stage carriage, from the stand for the Caversham carriages, to Caversham, or the reverse, or any intermediate stage, shall be 6d.

The only authorised fare for conveying any passenger by any licensed hackney carriage or borough stage carriage, from the stand for the Anderson's Bay carriages, to the Anderson's Bay Hotel, or the reverse, or any intermediate stage, shall be 9d.

Double fares to be chargeable only between the hours of nine o'clock p.m. and eight o'clock a.m.

Fares on public holidays and on Sabbath days to be the same as ordinary days.

No extra charge for luggage if under 50lbs. weight.

12th. The owner of every licensed carriage shall cause the Table of Fares to be painted in a legible manner on the tin plate previously provided for, in letters of one inch in length, white on black ground; such tin plate to be conspicuously affixed above the back step.

No. 10.

Regulations made under the authority of section 73, sub-division 2, part 10, of schedule 13 of said Act—For appointing the several sums to be paid for licenses for carts, the weight to be carried for a single load by every cart licensed to stand or ply for hire, the standing of any licensed cart, and the charge for the hire of any licensed cart, and the amount of money or wards to be paid to water carters attending at fires, &c., &c.

1st. For every license for any cart plying for hire within the City of Dunedin there shall be paid to the Town Clerk the sum of (£1) one pound annually. Every license to be available only until the 30th day of September after the date of its issue.

2nd. The weight to be carried for a single load by any cart licensed to stand or ply for hire shall be one (1) ton (2240lbs.); and for any express waggon, half a ton (1120lbs.)

3rd. The standing for carts licensed to ply for hire (not being night carts) within the City of Dunedin, shall be on the north side of Jetty-street (between Bond and Crawford-streets) with the wheels against the kerbstone, and the horses' heads fronting towards the south side of the street.

4th. The rates and charges to be paid for the hire of any licensed cart or waggon shall be as follow:—
Fares by Distance.
For any quantity of goods, not exceeding 5 cwt., distance half a mile or under ... 0 1 6
Further distance to be charged by time.
For any quantity over 5 cwt., and under 1 ton, to any part of Dunedin, from any stand ... 0 2 6
To any part of City, at per mile ... 0 2 6
For any further ton ... 0 2 6
Fares by Time.
For any time not exceeding half an hour ... 0 2 6
Exceeding one half but not exceeding one hour ... 0 3 0
Subsequent hour, each ... 0 3 0
The whole day, of eight hours' work ... 1 0 0
Removing of furniture always to be paid by time; carter being bound to use all reasonable expedition.
Time or distance to be at the option of employer, except as to removal of furniture.

5th. The rate or amount of compensation to be paid by the City Council to water carters attending at fires shall be

The above sums to be payable only on the certificate of the Captain of the D.V. Fire Brigade.

The foregoing Regulations were made by the Council of the City of Dunedin at an ordinary meeting, held on Wednesday, the 23rd day of June, 1869.

No. 11.

A Regulation made under section 48, subdivision 1, part 10, of schedule 13, of the "Municipal Corporations Act, 1867," "For fixing the Rates or Fares for Hackney Carriages or Borough Stage Carriages."

From and after the date upon which the Regulation hereinafter made shall come into operation, so much of Regulation No. 9, of the Council of the City of Dunedin, made on the 23rd June, 1869, as conflicts with the Regulation hereinafter made, shall be, and the same is hereby, repealed.

In addition to, and as an alteration of, the fares mentioned in subsection 11 of said Regulation No. 9, the following rate of fares shall be the only authorised fares for the distances therein stated, that is to say:—

The only authorised fare for conveying any passenger by any licensed carriage or borough stage carriage from the corner or stand, or the rank mentioned or referred to in subsection 9 of said Regulation 9, or any intermediate stage to the corner of George and Frederick streets, or from the corner of George and Frederick streets, or any intermediate stage to the said stand or rank, shall be three pence.

The only authorised fare for conveying any passenger by any licensed carriage or borough stage carriage from the corner of George and Frederick street, or any intermediate stage, to the Water of Leith toll-bar, or any
