APPLICATIONS

Applications are invited for the office of additional assistant master for the Invercargill Grammar School, at a salary of £200 per annum.

Applications with testimonials to be sent to Chairman School Committee, Invercargill, not later than 15th May.

HOLIDAY.—QUEEN’S BIRTHDAY.

The Anniversary of the said Birthday will be celebrated on Monday, 26th May, 1873, on which day the Provincial Government Offices will not be opened.

PUBLICANS’ LICENSE MEETINGS,

for considering applications for said licenses, &c., will be held in the various Licensing Courts throughout the Province, at noon on Tuesday, the third day of June, 1873. Applications, &c., must be made to the respective Clerks of Court, fourteen days at least before the said date.

WEST TAIERI RIVER DISTRICT RATE.

The Rate Roll of the West Taieri River District for the year 1873-4 now lies for inspection at the Post Office, Outram, for twenty-one days.

The Waipori District Road Board hereby give notice of the Board’s intention to close the road lines between section 23, block VIII., sections 5 and 6, block IX., and sections 1, 2, and 3, block X., Waihola West Survey District.

SCHEDULE X.

District of Naseby, April 24, 1873.

To the District Officer at Naseby.

I HEREBY give notice that I intend to construct a Water Race for agricultural purposes, commencing at a point on Terrace Creek, Hill’s Creek, and terminating at a point on Hill’s Creek.

The length of such Race is one mile, or thereabouts, and its intended course is east to west. The mean depth and breadth of such Race is eight by eighteen inches, and it is capable of carrying half a sluice head of water.

Surveyor (owner) of sections 28, 29, and 30, block XXXIII., in the incorporated town of Palmerston—Take notice that I desire the boundary fence between sections 25 and 26 to be made immediately, on or before May 30, 1873, and that such fence shall be eight posts to the chain and five wires, with ditch.

The Seaside District Road Board have decided to levy a special district rate of 6d. in the pound on all rateable property within the Brighton Subdivision, for the year ending 30th June, 1873. The Rate Book may be seen at the house of the undersigned, and objections to valuation (if any) will be heard at a meeting of the Board to be held in the house of Mr. Graham, Boat Harbour, on 5th June next, at 2 p.m.

KAKANUI ROAD DISTRICT.

To the owners or occupiers of Sections 41, 42, and 43, Block IV., Oamaru Survey District.

NOTICE is hereby given that, whereas the south-east boundary fence of the above-named sections includes the whole of the Road reserve opposite the said sections, the owners or occupiers are requested to remove the said fence without delay, or the powers vested in the Board of the district will be exercised.

Between Thomas Hammond, plaintiff; and Alexander McPherson, defendant.

NOTICE is hereby given, that by virtue of a writ of Fieri Facias, to me directed and delivered, issued out of this honorable Court in this cause, on the thirty-first day of January last, and in pursuance of “The Execution of Judgments against Real Estate Act, 1867,” all the estate and interest of the above-named Alexander McPherson, the execution debtor, in all that parcel of land, containing by admeasurement twenty perches, more or less, situate in the town of Roxburgh, in the Province of Otago, in New Zealand, being the north-east moiety of Section numbered eight (8) Block six (VI), on the map of the said Town of Roxburgh, bounded towards the north-west by Section six, one hundred and twenty-five links, towards the north-east by Cheviot street one hundred links, towards the south-east by section ten, one hundred and twenty-five links, and towards the south-west by the other moiety of the said Section eight, one hundred links, the memorial of judgment of which was registered in the office of the Registrar of Deeds in Dunedin, in the Province aforesaid, on the first day of February last, has at the suit of the above-named Thomas Hammond, the execution creditor, been levied upon and taken in execution, and will be sold by public auction at the Sheriff’s Bailiff’s Office, Supreme Courthouse, in Dunedin, on Thursday, the 31st day of July, at twelve o’clock at noon, unless the said execution shall be previously satisfied.

Dated in Dunedin, this twenty-fourth day of April, 1873.

The estate and interest of the above-named Alexander McPherson, the execution debtor, intended to be sold, is an estate in fee simple, subject to a mortgage for three hundred pounds.

EDUCATION BOARD RESOLUTIONS

  1. Schoolmasters and other teachers employed under the Board shall adhere strictly to the terms of the Education Ordinance 1863, in regard to the reading of the Bible and religious instruction. They shall take care that both parents and children be informed that attendance at such reading or instruction is optional, and they shall avoid in the course of the ordinary school instruction the use of any words or expressions calculated to give reasonable ground of offence to the members of any religious denomination.

  2. The time for the reading of the Bible shall be positively fixed to take place at the opening or closing of the school, the time so fixed shall be rigidly adhered to, and a notice of the time for such reading shall be conspicuously put up in every class-room.

  3. No religious catechism or religious formulary which is distinctive of any particular denomination or sect shall be taught during the school hours in any school connected with the Board.

It was further resolved that a copy of the foregoing resolutions be forwarded to the School Committees and School Teachers.
