WANTED.—A competent Teacher for the new School at Pukueri, distant six miles from Oamaru. Over 50 children supposed to attend. Salary: Government Grant and School Fees, and nearly 5 acres of Glebe, on which a comfortable residence is about to be erected. Applications with testimonials, to be forwarded on or before the 12th day of April, 1873, and addressed to the Clerk, Pukueri School Committee, Oamaru. For further information, apply at the Education Office, or THOS. WRIGHT, Pukueri.

All stock above the age of six months depastured on the Hundred by each of them; and in the event of any person bringing more stock on the Hundred, shall make a like return within fourteen days from the time of bringing said stock, and whosoever shall make a false return or shall fail to make such return, shall pay any sum not exceeding five pounds, and the cattle be liable to be impounded.

  1. Any person disturbing or harassing stock depasturing on the Hundred, shall forfeit and pay for every such offence any sum not exceeding five pounds: provided always that a holder of a depasturing license within the Hundred, or any person duly authorised in his or her behalf, may drive such stock for the purpose of collecting such as belong to him or her, and for the free and legitimate use of his or her right of pasturage within the Hundred; but in the event of its being necessary for such purpose to drive any stock a greater distance than half a mile, the person so driving such stock must take them to the nearest available stockyard and there separate his own from those of other persons, and return the latter to the place from whence they were driven, and failing to do so, shall forfeit and pay for every such offence any sum not exceeding five pounds.

  2. Any person removing stock beyond the boundary of the Hundred other than those belonging to him, or for the removal of which he shall not have an authority, shall forfeit and pay for every such offence any sum not exceeding five pounds.

  3. That no sheep be allowed to be depastured on the Hundred; and any person depasturing sheep on the Hundred, shall forfeit and pay for every such offence any sum not exceeding five pounds.

  4. Any stock not being the property of or which are not branded with the registered brand of the holder of the license under which they are depastured, or which are depastured on the Hundred, in contravention of any bye-law duly passed, may be impounded and the owner or custodian of such cattle may be proceeded against for trespass, and shall forfeit and pay for every such offence any sum not exceeding five pounds.

All or any of the acts authorised by these bye-laws, may be done by any of the wardens or other person duly appointed by them or authorised in their behalf.

EDUCATION BOARD.—A Special Meeting will be held in the Government Office, Dunedin, at noon on Friday, 14th March, 1873.

EDUCATION RESERVES, SOUTHLAND.
APPLICATIONS will be received by Mr. John H. Baker, Survey Office, Invercargill, from persons wishing to lease any of the Reserves as formerly advertised. Copies of the Otago Regulations and conditions for the Leasing of Education Reserves can be obtained from Mr. Baker, Invercargill.

REGISTRATION. Forms may be had gratis from the Registration Offices throughout the Province, and also from the Government Storekeeper, Dunedin.

ELECTION OF WARDENS.
THE undermentioned owners or occupiers of land have been elected Wardens for the current year, in the Hundreds specified, viz.:—

Oteramika Hundred.
Messrs. Robt. McCallum, G. T. Richardson, John Drake, and James Munro.

Oreti Hundred.
Messrs. James Mackintosh, Arthur Gerrard, John Shand, Wm. A. Lyon, and Chas. Quin.

Aparima Hundred.
Messrs. James Mackintosh, Roderick Mackintosh, William Johnstone, Thomas Hy. Walker, and Richard James.

At the Meeting for the Election of Wardens for Mabel Hundred, held at the Land Office, Invercargill, 22nd February, 1873, the following license-holders were elected Wardens for the current year:—

BYE-LAWS passed by the Wardens of the Winton Hundreds:—

  1. That no person be allowed to depasture more than fifteen head of cattle to every hundred acres occupied by him or her, and any person depasturing more than fifteen head of cattle shall forfeit and pay for every such offence any sum not exceeding five pounds.
  2. That any person depasturing stock on the Hundreds, who shall not have taken out a depasturing license, shall forfeit and pay for every such offence a sum not exceeding five pounds, and the cattle may be impounded.
  3. All stock over the age of six months depastured on the Hundred, shall be branded with the registered brand of the owners thereof; and unbranded stock above the age of six months found on the Hundred, may be impounded to be dealt with according to law.
  4. No bull over the age of nine months, or entire horse over the age of twelve months, shall be allowed to depasture on the Hundred, without the permission in writing of the Wardens or a majority of them, and any person turning out any bull or entire horse, without having such permission, shall forfeit and pay for every such offence any sum not exceeding five pounds.
  5. All persons depasturing stock on the Hundred, shall furnish to the wardens, on or before a day to be fixed by them, by advertisement in one of the local papers, a return showing the numbers, brands, and description of all stock above the age of six months depastured on the Hundred by each of them; and in the event of any person bringing more stock on the Hundred, shall make a like return within fourteen days from the time of bringing said stock, and whosoever shall make a false return or shall fail to make such return, shall pay any sum not exceeding five pounds.

BYE-LAWS adopted by the Wardens of the New River Hundred, at their meeting on the 20th February, 1873.

  1. That no cattle of any description be depastured on the New River Hundred without a license, provided always that cattle and horses of bona fide travellers on their journey, when turned out, be not considered trespassers if not longer than two nights in the same neighbourhood.
  2. That no sheep or small cattle of any kind be depastured on the New River Hundred, and that sheep travelling through the district will be treated as trespassers if found without a shepherd, or if camped for the night within five miles of the previous day’s camping ground.
  3. That no entire horse over twelve months old be depastured on the New River Hundred; and that no bull or bull-stag shall be allowed to run thereon after fourteen days’ notice to that effect has been given in writing to the owner thereof, by the Wardens.
  4. That no person shall be allowed to depasture on the Hundred, more than one head of cattle for every five acres of land in his occupation, and that all cattle so depastured must be branded with the registered brand of the runholder.
  5. That all stray cattle, and cattle depastured in contravention of any of the foregoing bye-laws may be impounded, and that the Wardens will not be responsible for any damage or loss.
