mistakes which may arise through cattle not bearing brands according to the “Cattle Branding Ordinance.”

  1. That every licenseholder shall, within fourteen days after these bye-laws are published in a local paper, make a return to the Warden living nearest to him, showing the numbers and brands of all stock depastured by him on the New River Hundred, and that the Wardens will not be responsible for any mistakes which may arise through non-compliance with this requirement.

  2. That the penalty for any breach of the foregoing bye-laws be any sum not exceeding five pounds sterling, to be recovered in a summary way, according to the XLV clause of the “Land Regulations.”

  3. That nothing contained in the above bye-laws shall be held or construed to authorise the impounding of sheep or cattle, or the enforcing penalties from the owners of any sheep or cattle which are being depastured on any land, whether fenced or not, which is the property of, or is lawfully occupied by the owner of such sheep or cattle.

NOTICE OF WITHDRAWAL OF MINING LEASE APPLICATION.

NOTICE is hereby given that the application of Angus McKay for mining lease of four acres of land at Yorston, Third gully, Hyde, made on August 24th, 1872, was on February 19th, 1873, withdrawn, and that the said ground is now open to persons holding miners’ rights or business licenses, or to applicants for a lease, as if no lease of the said ground had ever been applied for.

NOTICE TO APPLICANTS FOR UNSURVEYED LAND, under “Otago Waste Land Act 1866.”—The Sections in the subjoined Schedule being now surveyed, the applicants are informed that the Waste Land Board will give its decision on their applications at this Office, on Thursday, the 20th day of March, 1873, at 12.30 o’clock; on or before which day, objections to the survey, and if any, must be made. In the event of the applications being granted, the purchase money may be paid forthwith.
