AKARI District School, near Dunedin.

Applications will be received by the Wakari School Committee till Monday, the 18th November next, from persons qualified to fill the offices of Schoolmaster and Schoolmistress for said School. The Master’s salary will be the usual Government allowance of £100, and three-fifths of the School Fees; and the Schoolmistress’ salary the Government allowance of £60, and one-fifth of the School Fees. Attached to the School are a five-roomed dwelling-house, garden, and 10 acres of land fenced and laid down in English grass. This School—one of the oldest in the Province—has had an average attendance of 120 scholars for the last three years. A Schoolmistress who can teach music preferred. Applications, with testimonials, to be made to Mr. George Hepburn, Chairman, or to Mr. Colin Allan, Secretary to School Committee.

TEACHER Wanted.

Wanted a Second Master for North Dunedin School. Probable salary, £220 to £240 per annum. Certificates, &c., to be handed in to the undersigned on or before the 1st November.

AKARI District.—Additional Polling Place.

The Presbyterian Schoolhouse, Maori Hill, appointed a polling place for the District of Wakari for the election of Members of the Provincial Council of the Province of Otago. (See New Zealand Gazette, No. 50, October 3, 1872.)

VIENNA EXHIBITION 1873.

Notice is hereby given, that a Preliminary Exhibition of Articles intended to be exhibited at Vienna, in 1873, will take place at Christchurch, in December next.

The General Committee in Christchurch have formed Sub-Committees on:

  1. Wool
  2. Flax
  3. Grain
  4. Coal and Minerals
  5. Timber
  6. Miscellaneous Objects
  7. Agricultural, Flax, and other Machinery.

Intending Exhibitors will obtain all necessary information on application to Mr. W. M. Maskell, Secretary to the General Committee, Government Buildings, Christchurch.

IMMIGRANTS’ PASSAGE-MONEY.

Notice to Assisted Immigrants who arrived in the Province before the year 1869.

All immigrants who have arrived in the Province by ships prior to those referred to in the notice hereunder, and who have not paid their passage-money, are requested to do so at once by remitting same to me. Proceedings will be taken to recover in all cases of non-payment. When necessary the time for payment will be extended.

INCENDIARISM.

Maliciously Setting Fire to a House.
£50 Reward.

WHEREAS on the morning of Wednesday, the 24th ultimo, a fire broke out in the unoccupied house of Arthur John Bamford, at Mornington, value £500, by which the same was totally destroyed: And whereas there is no doubt but that the fire was maliciously caused by some evil-disposed person or persons: Notice is hereby given, that a reward of Fifty Pounds will be paid by the Provincial Government of Otago for such information as will lead to the conviction of the person or persons by whom the fire was originated.

Maliciously setting Fire to Two Stacks of Oats.
£100 Reward.

WHEREAS, about 8 o’clock on the night of Tuesday, the 27th ultimo, Two Stacks of Oats, on the farm of Murdoch M’Lellan, Tokomairiro, containing about 2000 bushels, value £200, were both discovered to be on fire at the same time, although about 20 feet apart: And whereas there is reason to suspect that the said fire was maliciously caused by some evil-disposed person or persons: Notice is hereby given, that a reward of £100 will be paid by the Provincial Government of Otago, for such information as will lead to the conviction of the person or persons by whom the said fire was originated.

BONUS FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A WOOL PACK AND SACK MANUFACTORY IN OTAGO.

The Provincial Government being desirous of encouraging the manufacture of Wool-packs and Sack, is prepared to receive offers from parties willing to embark in the enterprise, and is further prepared to pay a bonus of £1000 as under—

  • On the erection of buildings and machinery to the value of at least £2000—£500.
  • On the production of Sacks or Wool-packs to a value of not less than £500—£250.
  • On the production of a further quantity of Sacks or Wool-packs to the value of not less than £1000—£250.
