thence by that river to the western boundary of Run No. 187 ext. thence by that boundary to the Aparima River and thence by that river to its junction with the Braxton Burn towards the east by the said Aparima or Jacob’s River towards the south again towards the east and again towards the south by the Riverton District before described and towards the west by the Waiau River by the western boundaries of Runs Nos. 172 and 303 by the northern boundary of the said Run No. 303 again by the Waiau River and by the southern, western and northern boundaries of the before-mentioned Run No. 413 to the commencing point.

Taungatara Licensing District

shall for the purposes of the "Licensing Ordinance 1865" comprise all that area bounded towards the north by the northern boundary of the late Province of Southland from the north-western angle of Run No. 188 to the north-western angle of Run No. 302 thence by a straight line to the source of the Dilston Stream thence by that stream until it meets a line in continuation of part of the northern boundary of Run No. 191 thence by that line and boundary to the Mataura River thence towards the east by the said Mataura River to Run No. 112 thence by the north-western boundary of that Run to the Longridge Creek thence by that creek to its junction with the Waimea Stream thence by the said Waimea Stream to the western boundary of Run No. 119A and thence by the western boundaries of the said Run No. 119A and Run 119B thence towards the south by part of the northern boundaries of the Invercargill and Riverton Districts hereinbefore defined to the Aparima or Jacob’s River and thence towards the west by that river to the south-western angle of Run No. 198 and thence by the western boundaries of Runs Nos. 198 and 188 to the commencing point.

Mataura Licensing District

shall for the purposes of the "Licensing Ordinance 1865" comprise all that area in the late Province of Southland bounded towards the north-east and east by the Mataura River and towards the south and west by the Invercargill and Taungatara Districts before described.

IT being deemed expedient that a Commission should be appointed to take into consideration the general question of the legislation affecting the Gold Fields, and thereupon to make such recommendations for amendment and consolidation of the existing Acts as may seem desirable in the interests of the mining community; and, further, to suggest such alterations in the regulations as may be suitable to the advanced condition of gold mining in the Province, it is ordered that—

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Provincial Government Buildings, Dunedin, the twenty-eighth day of April, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-one.

Present:

George Turnbull, Esquires,
Members of the Executive Council of the Province of Otago, being also Members of the Provincial Council of the said Province.

WHEREAS Thomas Dick Esquire, the then Superintendent of the Province of Otago, by virtue and in exercise of the powers delegated to and vested in him in that behalf, did by Proclamation in the Government Gazette of the said Province bearing date the twenty-ninth day of January, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-seven, constitute and appoint all the territory therein described (including amongst other lands the lands described in the Schedule hereto), to be a Gold Field, under the provisions of the "Gold Fields Act 1866", to be called the "Otago Gold Field;" And whereas by the "Gold Fields Act Amendment Act 1867" it is enacted that within any Province in which by any Act or Ordinance it is provided that the Superintendent shall in the administration of the Government thereof act by and with the advice and consent of an Executive Council, it shall be lawful for the Governor in Council under his hand, and under the public seal of the Colony from time to time as occasion may require to delegate to the Executive Government for the time being of such Province, subject or not to any restrictions or limitations as he shall think fit, all or any of such powers vested in the Governor or the Governor in Council by the "Gold Fields Act 1866" as under or by virtue of the one hundred and ninth section of the said Act may be delegated by the Governor in Council and in like manner to revoke any such delegation. And whereas by an Ordinance of the Superintendent and Provincial Council of the Province of Otago entitled the "Executive Council Ordinance 1861" it is provided that the Superintendent of the said Province shall in the administration of the Government thereof act by and with the advice and consent of an Executive Council; and whereas the Governor hath with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of New Zealand and
