Delegation of Powers under Gold Fields Act
In pursuance of the power and authority for that purpose vested in him by the "Gold Fields Act 1866" and subject to its provisions delegated unto the Executive Government for the time being of the Province of Otago all such powers vested in the Governor or the Governor in Council by the said last-mentioned Act as under or by virtue of the one hundred and ninth section of the said last-mentioned Act may be delegated by the Governor in Council to have hold and exercise the said powers within the said Province of Otago. And whereas by Section forty-nine of the "Gold Fields Act 1866" it is provided that if a Depasturing Lease or License shall not at the date of the passing of the said Act have been granted or shall have been or shall be cancelled over any Crown Lands within a Gold Field it shall be lawful for the Governor from time to time by proclamation to declare such lands or any part thereof open for sale or selection in sections of such size and form as he may determine and any lands so proclaimed may thereafter be sold at a like price and subject to the like terms and conditions or as near thereto as may be as Crown Lands of the same class not within a Gold Field and it shall not be necessary to withdraw lands from the operation of the said Act for the purposes aforesaid. And whereas all Depasturing Licenses hitherto existing over the Crown Lands described in the said Schedule hereto have been cancelled; And whereas the Executive Government of the Province of Otago have determined to open up for sale the said lands described in the Schedule hereto in sections of the size and form in which the same have already been surveyed and as the same are laid off and delineated in the maps of the Chief Surveyor of the Province of Otago relative thereto: Now therefore His Honor James Macandrew Superintendent of the Province of Otago by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Province doth hereby by virtue and in exercise of the powers delegated to the Executive Government of the said Province in this behalf by His Excellency the Governor of New Zealand in Council under the authority of the "Gold Fields Act Amendment Act 1867" and of any and every other power in anywise enabling the said Executive Government in this behalf proclaim and declare that from and after the date hereof all the Crown Lands specified in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale in sections of the size and form in which such lands have already been surveyed and as the same are laid off and delineated on the map in the Office of the Chief Surveyor of the Province of Otago relative thereto.

Town of Ophir (Blae Fs.)
All that area in the Province of Otago containing by admeasurement fifty (50) acres more or less being the Town of Ophir as delineated on the map of the said Town bounded towards the north-west by Reserve for Gold Mining three thousand one hundred and twenty (3120) links towards the north-east by Crown Lands one thousand three hundred and fifty (1350) links towards the south-east by Crown Lands three thousand five hundred and twenty (3520) links and towards the south-west by Crown Lands one thousand six hundred (1600) links.

Of the Establishment of a Pound at Inch Clutha
NOTICE is hereby given, that by virtue of the powers vested in me by the "Impounding Ordinance 1862," I have established a Pound on Section 9, Block XII, Inch Clutha District, in Province of Otago, and that I have appointed Frederick Bassett, of Balclutha, in the said Province, to be keeper of the said Pound.

NOTICE is hereby given, that the Mining Lease prepared in favor of Henry Brooks, for Section 2, Block VII, Skipper's Creek District, has been cancelled; and the land in question is now open for occupation by holders of Miners' Rights.

NOTICE is hereby given that William Fitzgerald having failed to execute the Agricultural Lease prepared in his favor for section 2, Block IV, Tuapeka East, it has been cancelled, in accordance with Section 11 of the Regulations Relating to Agricultural Leases in the Otago Gold Fields, and the land is open for occupation by holders of Miners' Rights.

Free Grants of Land for Plantation
The Provincial Government is prepared to receive applications from parties desirous of taking up land for the purpose of planting forest trees.
Each applicant will be allowed to take up an area of land not exceeding 250 acres, to be selected in any part of the Province. Provided that, if within Gold Fields, the Warden of the district will be required to report, and should the application be granted, it will be subject to the provisions of the Agricultural Lease Regulations, so as to enable to mine, or prospect for gold.
Any person whose application is accepted will be required, during the first year, to fence in the whole of the area granted to him, and to plant with blue gum, or other approved forest trees one-fifth of the area during each of the second, third, fourth, and fifth years. The remaining fifth may be used for cultivation, at the option of the occupant.
As soon as these conditions are fulfilled, the occupier will be entitled to receive a Crown Grant free of cost. Any further information can be obtained on application at this office.
