CAPE ROAD DISTRICT.—Election of Local Board of Road Trustees: In pursuance of the “Otago Roads Ordinance 1865,” and the “Otago Roads Ordinance 1865 Extension and Amendment Ordinance,” I hereby convene a meeting of the persons liable to be rated for roads in the above-named district, such meeting to be held at the house of Mr Thomas Norman, Winton, within the said district, on Saturday, 25th March, 1871, at noon, for the purpose of electing a Local Board of Road Trustees to serve for the year ending June, 1871.

Note.—The attention of ratepayers is specially directed to the 9th, 10th, and 11th Clauses of the “Otago Roads Ordinance 1865” for mode of procedure at electoral meetings.

Road District of Hokonui formed.
By His Honor James Macandrew, Superintendent of the Province of Otago.
WHEREAS by an Ordinance passed by the Superintendent and Provincial Council of the Province of Otago, intituled the “Otago Roads Ordinance 1865,” it is amongst other things enacted that, until otherwise provided, pursuant to the provisions of the said Ordinance, there should be sixty-one Districts, which should be named as specified in the Schedule to the said Ordinance annexed, marked B: And it is also by the said Ordinance provided that it should be lawful for the Superintendent, with the advice and consent of the Otago General Road Board, from time to time, by proclamation in the Gazette, to alter, vary, diminish, or enlarge the boundaries of any or all of such districts, and to increase the number of districts by forming and naming new districts:
And whereas it is expedient to form a new Road District, to be named the Hokonui Road District:
Now therefore, I, James Macandrew, Superintendent of the Province of Otago, with the advice and consent of the Otago General Road Board, do hereby proclaim and declare that the area bounded as described in the Schedule hereto, shall, from the day of the date hereof, be constituted a Road District, and shall be named the Hokonui Road District.

SCHEDULE.
Hokonui District, containing about 702,900 acres: bounded on the east by the Mataura River, from its source to the mouth of Charleston Creek; on the south by the northern boundary of the Waimumu, Forest Hill, Winton, and part of Oreti Hundred; on the west by the west boundaries of Runs Nos. 149, 159, and 181, and by the Oreti River to its junction with the Windley Stream; and on the north-west by the boundary line of the late Province of Southland from the mouth of the Windley to Takerahaka Peak.
Given under my hand, at Dunedin, and issued under the Public Seal of the Province of Otago, this twenty-fourth day of November, one thousand eight hundred and seventy.

Of the Establishment of a Pound at Shotover.
NOTICE is hereby given, that by virtue of the powers vested in me by the Impounding Ordinance 1862,” I have established a Public Pound on Block three in the Shotover District, in the Province of Otago, and that I have appointed

of Shotover District aforesaid, to be keeper of the said Pound.

NOTICE.
“Provincial Compulsory Lands Taking Act 1866.”
NOTICE is hereby given that it is intended to introduce a Bill into the Provincial Council of the Province of Otago at its next Session authorising the Superintendent of the Province of Otago to take compulsorily for the purpose of completing a road in the Sandymount Road District parts of sections numbered respectively four and five block three Otago Peninsula Survey District. And notice is hereby further given that a copy of the Bill so intended to be introduced as aforesaid may be inspected at the Office of the Clerk of the Provincial Council on and after the twentieth day of April next.

NOTICE.—Public notification is hereby given that the ground described in the Schedule below may be occupied by holders of miners’ rights, in terms of Section 1 of Regulation IV of the Regulations of the Otago Gold Fields.

That portion of the Otago Gold Fields known as Long Valley, commencing at the Quartz Reef Shaft, Dromedary Hill, thence in a line east; thence to the starting-point of the Serpentine Extended Claim District; thence south to the saddle dividing the waters of the Teviot from the Manorburn; thence west to the Junction of the Manorburn and Long Valley Creeks; thence north to the starting-point.
