PUBLICANS’ LICENSES.—The Quarterly Meeting of Justices will be held in the various Licensing Courts within the Province at noon on Tuesday, 7th June, 1870. Notice of business must be lodged with the respective Clerks of Courts 14 clear days before the said meeting, otherwise the business cannot come before the Court.
NOTICE TO MARINERS.—Dunedin Harbour.—A large red Beacon has been erected at the end of the training wall to the entrance of Rattray Street Jetty, Dunedin. And after Saturday evening, the 23rd day of April, 1870, the red light will be discontinued at the said entrance. Vessels entering must pass the red beacon on the starboard hand.
THE Otago Education Board invites applications for the following-mentioned appointments:—1st. A Lady Principal for the Otago Provincial School for the Higher Education of girls; salary, for the present, £250 per annum, with free residence and accommodation for boarders. 2nd. A Governess for the same Institution; salary, £150 per annum. And 3rd. A Commercial Master for the Otago High School; salary, £300 per annum.
The Lady Principal will be expected to receive girls as boarders at fifty guineas per annum. In the event of the successful candidate for the Commercial Mastership being unmarried, he will receive a salary of £250 with free board and residence at the High School Boarding Establishment.
Candidates are requested to specify all the subjects they are qualified to teach. Applications with Testimonials will be received by the undersigned till the 1st of June, 1870. Additional information will be furnished on application.
UNIVERSITY OF OTAGO, N. Z.
THE COUNCIL of the University of Otago will shortly appoint two Professors to the following-mentioned Chairs:—1st. Classics, to include Greek, Latin, and the English Language and Literature; 2nd. Mathematics and Natural Philosophy. Salary of each Professor £600 per annum with the Class Fees, which are fixed at three guineas per term. Candidates must be graduates of some established and recognised University.
Applications and testimonials will be received by the undersigned till the 1st of June, 1870. Additional information will be furnished on application.

IMMIGRATION MONEY.—The Police are the only persons authorised to take payment of Passage Money, outside the Government Buildings, Dunedin.
Instances have come to the knowledge of the Police of persons having received money from Immigrants for the purpose of paying the same to the Government, and neglected to do so until the amount was again demanded from the Immigrants.
Immigrants, therefore, who have paid passage money to their Agents or Guarantees, or who have left money in the hands of their employers for the purpose of being handed to the Government, and who have not received their bills, or a proper receipt, are requested to communicate with me immediately, giving the dates and amounts so paid or left.

GOLD FIELDS.—Just Published, Price 2s.* (the usual allowance to the Trade on taking not less than twelve), Pamphlet containing Regulations of the Otago Gold Fields, Gold Mining Leases Regulations, Agricultural Leases Regulations, Rules for Regulating Proceedings and Practice of Wardens’ Courts, the Gold Fields Act 1866, the Gold Mining Claim Drainage Act 1868, and the Gold Fields Act Amendment Act 1869. If sent by Post, the following extra charges will be made: for one copy, 8d; two, 1s 4d; three, also 1s 4d; four, 2s; five, 2s 8d; six, also 2s 8d; seven, 3s 4d; eight, 4s; nine, 4s 6d. Nine is the largest quantity allowed by Postal Regulations in one parcel. Pamphlet may be had from John Logan, Provincial Government Storekeeper, Dunedin.

LOTTERY.—The following clause of the "Town and Country Police Ordinance 1862" is published for general information:—
- If any person shall establish commence or be a partner or otherwise beneficially interested in any lottery or any scheme by which prizes whether of money or of any other matter or thing shall be gained drawn or thrown for or competed for by lot dice or any other mode of chance or shall sell or dispose of any tickets or other means by which permission or authority is gained or given to any person to throw for compete or have any interest in any such lottery or scheme or shall under any pretence or by means of any device sell or dispose of or endeavour to sell or dispose of any goods wares or merchandise by means of any game either of skill or chance every such person being duly convicted thereof shall forfeit and pay a penalty not exceeding fifty pounds and for any second offence besides such penalty shall be liable to imprisonment not exceeding six months: But this provision shall not apply to the distribution of any property amongst the owners thereof or to any raffle of any work purely of art of which a notice having the name and address of the person intending to hold the same subscribed thereto shall have been given to the Superintendent if the Superintendent shall not within one week after such notice prohibit such raffle by notice sent by post or in any other manner according to the address so subscribed by such person.

a Teacher; salary, £100 per annum, all the School fees, and a free house and garden. Applications to be lodged with Mr. J. G. Grey, Clerk to the Committee.
