Dunedin, 5th April, 1869.

A Meeting of the Board for examining Surveyors held this day—Present:

Mr J. T. Thomson,
Mr George Barr,
Mr James McKerrow.

Mr Thomson was elected Chairman, and Mr McKerrow was elected Examiner.

The following rules were passed unanimously:—

Surveyors desiring to obtain certificates of competency from the Board will require to forward to the Chairman of the Board an application in writing, accompanied by testimonials.

After examination of these, the applicant will be informed whether it will or will not be necessary for him to submit to a test of competency.

The test of competency will consist in the production of properly executed plans, and good survey instruments, in correct reduction of traverses, and a sufficient knowledge of arithmetic, practical geometry, plane trigonometry, and the use and adjustment of the theodolite.

PUBLIC NOTICE, under Regulation VI of the Otago Gold Field Rules and Regulations.

Sufficient proof having been shown to me that the portion of the Otago Gold Field, described in the Schedule hereunto annexed, has been fairly tested, and is either wholly, or for the greater part, of an inferior character as regards the value of its gold deposits—I hereby give notice that the same may be occupied by holders of miners’ rights, in claims of the undermentioned size—namely, one acre for each holder of a miners’ right, provided that no block claim shall exceed more than six (6) acres.

All that portion of the Otago Gold Field included by the bed of the Arrow River, starting from the Gorge, Arrow town, and terminating at a point on the Arrow River, known as “The Falls.”

Office of the Commissioners of the Public Debts Sinking Funds,
Wellington, 25th February, 1869.

THE Commissioners for the Public Debts Sinking Funds, appointed by “The Public Debts Sinking Funds Act 1868,” hereby give notice that all moneys heretofore by law payable to the Trustees of the Sinking Funds of any of the Loans hereunder mentioned, are now payable by the said Act to either of the undermentioned persons, who are authorised by the Commissioners to receive and to give receipts for the same; that is to say—

For the Sinking Funds of the Auckland Loan: The Hon. Dr Pollen, Auckland;

For the Sinking Funds of the Otago Loans: A. R. C. Strode, Esq., Dunedin; and

For the Sinking Funds of all other Loans: James Clark Gavin, Secretary to the Commissioners.

I, THE UNDERSIGNED, JAMES JOHN TAINE, hereby make application to register “The Duke of Edinburgh Quartz Mining Company, Macraes, Registered,” under the provisions of “The Mining Companies Limited Liability Act 1865,” and I do solemnly and sincerely declare that the following statement is, to my belief and knowledge, true in every particular, namely—

  1. The name and style of the Company is “The Duke of Edinburgh Quartz Mining Company, Macraes, Registered.”
  2. The place of operation is at Macraes Flat.
  3. The nominal capital of the Company is £6,000, in 1,200 shares of £5 each.
  4. The amount already paid up is £191 10s.
  5. The name of the Manager is James John Taine.
  6. The Office of the Company is at Dunedin.
