Arrow Licensing District

Towards the west by the Arrow and Queenstown Licensing Districts, and a line from Fox Peak along the east branch of the Matukituki River to the Province of Canterbury.

  1. Arrow Licensing District shall, for the purposes of the said Ordinance, comprise all that area bounded towards the north and east by a line proceeding from Mount Hyde to Mount Alpha; thence over Little Cruffel to Mount Pisa; thence along the ranges to Kirtleburn by its southern feeder; thence to Kawarau River; and towards the south and west by the Queenstown Licensing District.

PUBLICANS' LICENSES – Quarterly Meetings

Under the “Licensing Ordinance, 1865.”—Notice is hereby given, that a Meeting of Justices will be held in the Resident Magistrate’s Court House, Dunedin, and also at the Resident Magistrate’s Court House at each of the following places, viz:—Port Chalmers, Clyde, Queenstown, Oamaru, Waikouaiti, Taieri, Tokomairiro, Clutha, Naseby, Lawrence, Saint Bathans, Mount Benger, Cromwell, Arrow, at noon on Tuesday, the 5th day of March, 1867, for the purpose of taking into consideration all applications for General, General Night, and Bottle Licenses, and for the transfer, renewal, or removal of such Licenses, of which due notice shall have been given to the Clerk of the said Resident Magistrate’s Courts respectively, as directed by the said Ordinance, at which time and place all persons having business thereat are required to give their attendance.

REGULATIONS for the DEPASTURING of STOCK upon “Otago Gold Field,” and of the Appointment of Wardens.

  1. Every holder of a miner’s right or of a business license shall be entitled to run two head of great cattle or horses free of charge.

  2. All other cattle running in the before-mentioned lands shall be assessed and paid for half yearly, and paid for at the following rates, namely:—
    For every head of great cattle... 1s. 3d.
    For every head of small cattle... 3d.
    The words “great cattle” shall be construed to mean horned cattle, horses, mules, and asses, male and female, with their weaned offspring above six months of age; and the words “small cattle” shall be construed to mean sheep and goats, male and female, with their weaned offspring.

  3. Every person desirous of running cattle on the said Lands shall first deposit with the Warden of the District an application in writing for a Depasturing License, which license the Warden is hereby authorized to grant in the form hereinafter mentioned; and every person depositing any such application shall pay therewith a fee of 2s. 6d.

  4. Any person infringing these regulations by depasturing cattle on the before-mentioned lands without a license, or depasturing cattle in excess of the number for which any such license has been issued, will be liable to a penalty not exceeding Ten Shillings per head for every head of cattle so depastured, as provided by Section XV. of the “Gold Fields Act, 1866.”

  5. A list of the Depasturing Licenses issued, and of the names of the licensees, with the quantity and description of stock which each person is authorized to depasture, shall be posted in the Warden’s office, so that it can be inspected at any time by the public.

  6. Any person depasturing swine on the before-mentioned lands without a license will be liable to a penalty not exceeding ten pounds for the first offence, and twenty pounds for any second or subsequent offence.

The following shall be the form of Depasturing License:—

Whereas __ of __ has made application for a License to Depasture Stock upon the Gold Field Reserve within the district of __

and has this day paid the sum of __: The said __ is hereby authorized to depasture (specify number) head of (specify great or small cattle or horses, as the case may be) upon the said Reserve, for the term of one half year from the date hereof.

And I, the said Thomas Dick, as such Superintendent as aforesaid, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority in me vested in this behalf, do hereby appoint the undermentioned officers of the Gold Field to be Wardens of such Reserves for the respective districts set opposite their names (that is to say)—

  • Edward Croker, Esquire, R.M., Gabriel’s and Waitahuna.
  • Henry Wiremu Robinson, Esquire, R.M., Manuherikia, Dunstan, Clyde.
  • Lowther Broad, Esquire, R.M., Arrow, Cardrona.
  • Richmond Beetham, Esquire, R.M., Queenstown, Upper Shotover.

BOUNDARIES of certain Districts exempted from the Regulations for Depasturing Stock in the Province of Otago, proclaimed in last week’s Gazette:—

First, All that area in the Province of Otago, containing by admeasurement eight thousand six hundred and seventy-eight (8678) acres, more or less, situate in the Interior district, being portion of Run originally numbered 386, and now known as Run numbered one (1), bounded by a line commencing at the mouth of One-mile Creek, thence along that creek to its source, thence by a line in a northerly direction to the watershed, thence along the watershed to Ben Lomond Peak, thence along the watershed in a northerly direction to the junction of Moonlight Creek with Moke Creek, thence along Moonlight Creek to the Shotover River, thence along the Shotover River to the western boundary of block II, Shotover District, thence along the western boundary of the said block II to block I, thence along the western boundary of the said block I to the township of Frankton, thence along the northern boundary of Frankton to the Wakatipu Lake, thence along the Wakatipu Lake to Queenstown, thence round the northern boundary of Queenstown and along the Wakatipu Lake to One-mile Creek, the starting point.

Second, All that area in the Province of Otago, containing by admeasurement seventeen thousand and eighteen (17,018) acres, more or less, situate in the Interior District, being portion of Run originally numbered 356, and now known as Run numbered ten (10), bounded by the Shotover River from the bridge near Arthur’s Point to Deep Creek, thence along Deep Creek to its source, thence by a straight line to the Coronet, thence by a line to the source of Bush Creek, thence along Bush Creek to the foot of the range near Arrowtown, thence by a line in a westerly direction along the foot of the range to the bridge near Arthur’s Point.

Third, All that area in the Province of Otago containing by admeasurement nineteen thousand four hundred and eight (19,408) acres, more or less, situate in the Interior District, being portion of Run originally numbered 340, and now known as Run numbered eleven (11), bounded by a line commencing at the junction of the Swift Burn with the Arrow River, thence along the Arrow River to the eastern boundary of block VIII, Shotover District, thence by a line due north to the northern boundary of block X, Shotover District, thence along the northern boundary of the said block X to the Arrow River, thence along the Arrow River and Soho Creek to the dividing range between Soho Creek and the south branch of the Motatapu River, thence along the watershed of the Cardrona River and Soho Creek in a southerly direction to the Peak, thence by a straight line to the source of the nearest tributary to the Cardrona River in a northeasterly direction, thence along that tributary to its junction with the Cardrona River, thence along the Cardrona River to its source, thence by a line to the source of the Swift Burn, and along that stream to its junction with the Arrow River, the starting point.
