THE following Section of the "Otago Roads
Ordinance, 1865," is published for general
information.

XXV. * an abstract of such
accounts shall be published in the Gazette, or in a
newspaper circulating within the district, within one
month after the accounts are audited as aforesaid, and
any Clerk or Treasurer neglecting to make up, or

• • • failing to publish the abstract
      thereof as aforesaid, shall be liable to a penalty
      not exceeding five pounds.

PASSAGES from London and Glasgow are granted
by the Provincial Government of Otago to the
friends of colonists on a guarantee that the passage-
money will be repaid, by instalments, within 6 months
after arrival. The usual cost of a passage is £14.
In the case of female domestic servants, only one-
half the passage-money is charged, the other half
being contributed by the Government.

HUNDRED of WAIHOLA.—Meeting for the elec-
tion of one Warden in the room of H. L. Squires,
resigned. Notice—Mr. H. L. Squires having resigned
the office of Warden of the Waihola Hundred, I hereby
call a meeting of the persons entitled to vote at the elec-
tion of Wardens for the said Hundred, to elect one Warden
in the room of the said H. L. Squires, resigned, such
meeting to take place at the Court House, Tokomairiro,
on Wednesday, the 15th day of August next, at 12
o'clock.

WILD BIRDS PROTECTION ACT, 1864.—The
following Sections of "The Wild Birds Pro-
tection Act, 1864," &c., is published for general in-
formation. The Governor, of date 4th March last,
proclaimed the Province of Otago to be within the
operation of the second section of the said Act.

SECTION I.—The Short Title of this Act shall be
"The Wild Birds Protection Act, 1864," and it shall
be deemed to be added to the "Protection of Certain
Animals Act, 1861."

SECTION II.—No wild duck, paradise duck, or
pigeon, indigenous to the Colony, shall be hunted,
taken, or killed, except during the months of April,
May, June, and July in any year.

SECTION III.—If any person shall sell or expose
for sale or purchase any of the aforesaid birds during
any part of the time in which the said Act or any
of them it is rendered unlawful to kill them, any such
person shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding
twenty pounds, nor less than two pounds on convic-
tion thereof before a Justice of the Peace.

SECTION XI. of the said Act of 1861 provides that
every offence against any of the provisions of the Act
shall be punished by a fine not exceeding twenty
pounds, nor less than one pound, in respect of a male
bird; and not exceeding forty pounds, nor less than
two pounds, in respect of any female bird—one half
of any such fine to be paid to the person or persons
who shall be instrumental in convicting, in such pro-
portion as the Magistrate may specify.

been formed under the "Otago Roads Ordi-
nance, 1865," to act until the next General Election
in June, 1867 :—

Leasing of Education Reserves may be had on appli-
cation personally, or by letter, to the Secretary of the
Board, Dunedin.

A Meeting of the Education Board will be held at
the Government Offices, Dunedin, upon Monday, the
20th day of August, 1866, at noon, for the despatch
of business.
