punished every such person as aforesaid shall forfeit and pay for any such offence any sum not exceeding twenty-five pounds or be imprisoned in any gaol or house of correction either with or without hard labour for any period not exceeding two months: Provided that it shall be lawful for the owner or occupier of any land to burn any straw stubble grass or herbage or to ignite any wood or other inflammable material on such land after he shall have given to the occupiers of all land contiguous to the land from or on which the stubble grass or herbage is intended to be burned or the wood or other inflammable material is intended to be ignited notice in writing at least twenty-four hours before burning or igniting as aforesaid of the time at which it is his intention so to burn or ignite.

NOTICE.--WAKARI TOLL.
The Lessee of the Wakari Toll is authorised to collect tolls on and after the 1st day of February, 1865, at the Check Toll Bar, near the Shepherds’ Arms, Wakari Road.

NOTICE.
The Public are requested to observe the rule that business with the Land Office cannot be transacted by correspondence, but persons requiring information or having business to transact, must attend personally or by an agent. This rule will be rigidly enforced on and after the 1st of February next, the right by the Commissioner of Crown Lands to frank letters having been withdrawn. The receipt of letters sent through the Post will not be acknowledged, and such letters, if the postage be not prepaid, will be refused.

NOTICE TO MARINERS.
Manukau Harbour.
Notice is hereby given that the inner fairway buoy in the South Channel of the Manukau has been removed, and a cone buoy with a barrel beacon on top and painted red, has been placed in four fathoms, distant from the N. E. end of Treachery Shoal about one cable. This buoy should be left on the Starboard hand going in.

In the matter of the Petition of JOHN HURLEY, of the White Star Hotel, Wetherston’s, Hotel-keeper, a Debtor; and in the matter of the Petition of George Lane, of Waipori, Butcher, being a Creditor of the said John Hurley to the extent of not less than Fifty Pounds; and in the matter of the “Debtors and Creditors Act, 1862.”
Notice is hereby given that the undersigned John Hurley has, with the concurrence of George Lane, presented and filed his Petition for the sequestration of his estate for the benefit of all his Creditors, and for relief according to the provisions of the “Debtors and Creditors Act, 1862,” and that the said Petition has been accepted by his Honor the Judge, who has appointed Monday, the 13th day of February, A.D. 1865, at ten o’clock in the forenoon, at the Supreme Court House, Dunedin, for the hearing of the said Petition, at which time and place all parties concerned are to attend.

I HEREBY Certify that JOHN DRYSDALE, of Port Chalmers, in the Province of Otago, has this day submitted for my examination his Diplomas as at Doctor of Medicine from the University of Glasgow, Licentiate of the Faculty of Physicians and Surgeons Glasgow, and a Licentiate in Midwifery, Glasgow, in accordance with the provisions of “An Ordinance passed by the Legislative Council of New Munster, Session 1, No 2, of 1849, intituled “An Ordinance to define the qualifications, and to provide for the remuneration in certain cases of Medical Practitioners.”
