✨ Educational District Meetings and Rural Land Applications
Oamaru District.—Within the School-house, at 1 o'clock p.m.
Lower Waitaki District.—Within the Dwelling-house of Mr. James Halkett, at half-past 6 o'clock p.m.
Bruce District.—Within Mr. Wilson's Barn, at half-past 6 o'clock p.m.
By the Education Ordinance, 1862, it is enacted that "on the first Monday of October in each year a Public Meeting of the owners and occupiers of land and householders in every Educational District, above the age of 21 years, shall be held at a time and place to be fixed by the Secretary of the Board; and at such meeting a Chairman shall be chosen, and the School Committee for the preceding year shall give a full report of their proceedings," and thereupon the electors present shall proceed to elect, either by show of hands or by ballot, as shall be determined upon by the said meeting, a new School Committee of not less than five or more than nine owners and occupiers of land or householders above the age of 21 years, of whom a majority shall be parents of families.
