Notice of Intention to Incorporate Material by Reference—Extension to Consultation Period for Earthquake-prone Building Methodology

New Materials Proposed to be Incorporated by Reference

Pursuant to section 409(2) of the Building Act 2004 ("Act"), I give notice that the following material is proposed to be incorporated by reference into the Earthquake-prone Building Methodology (a methodology to be set by the Chief Executive of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) under section 133AV of the Building (Earthquake-prone Buildings) Amendment Act 2016):

The Seismic Assessment of Existing Buildings: Technical Guidelines for Engineering Assessments (the Engineering Assessment Guidelines) produced by the New Zealand Society for Earthquake Engineering, the Structural Engineering Society (SE SOC) and NZ Geotechnical Society (NZGS), in conjunction with MBIE and the Earthquake Commission.

Copies and Viewing of Material Proposed to be Incorporated by Reference

Material proposed to be incorporated by reference is available for inspection free of charge at the Ministry’s national office, 15 Stout Street, Wellington, between the hours of 8.30am and 5.00pm, Monday to Friday.

An updated draft version of the Engineering Assessment Guidelines was released in October 2016 for consideration during the consultation period for the Earthquake-prone Building Methodology. This version of the Engineering Assessment Guidelines is also available free of charge at www.eq-assess.org.nz

A printed copy may be requested by emailing EPBconsultation@mbie.govt.nz with your name and postal address.

The final version of the Engineering Assessment Guidelines is expected to be issued to coincide with the commencement of the Building (Earthquake-prone Buildings) Amendment Act 2016.

Comment

Submissions on the proposals contained in the Earthquake-prone Building Methodology opened on 2 September 2016 and the deadline for submissions has been extended to Friday 10 February 2017 at 5.00pm. Comments can be made in the following ways:

  • downloading a submission form and completing it electronically or on a printed copy; or
  • providing written feedback in a letter or email.
