Notice of Proposals to Assign or Alter Geographic Names

Pursuant to section 16 of the New Zealand Geographic Board (Ngā Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa) Act 2008 (“the Act”), the New Zealand Geographic Board Ngā Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa hereby gives notice of various proposals to either assign new, or alter existing, geographic names.

The proposed new or altered geographic names are specified in the first column of the Schedule below (“the Schedule”).

The geographic feature type that each proposed new or altered geographic name relates to is set out in the second column of the Schedule.

The description of each proposed new or altered geographic name is set out in the third column of the Schedule.

The date by which submissions must be received is provided in the fourth column of the Schedule.

Submissions on proposed new or altered geographic names may be provided in writing to the Secretary of the New Zealand Geographic Board, c/o Land Information New Zealand, PO Box 5501, Wellington 6145. In accordance with section 17 of the Act, submissions must state, with reasons, whether the proposal is supported or objected to and if an objection is made, then submissions may set out an alternative proposal, or support the existing name, if any.

Ngāi Tāmanuhiri Claims Settlement Act 2012

Notice of Treaty of Waitangi Settlement Altered Crown Protected Area Name for Ngāi Tāmanuhiri

Pursuant to section 63 of the Ngāi Tāmanuhiri Claims Settlement Act 2012 (“the Settlement Act 2012”), the New Zealand Geographic Board Ngā Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa (“Board”) hereby gives notice of an altered Crown Protected Area (CPA) name.

The Schedule below specifies the details of the altered CPA name; its generic term; its description; and former name.

The official CPA name took effect on 1 August 2012, being the date the Settlement Act 2012 came into effect.
