A savings provision allows persons granted allowances in respect of level 4 or above courses that they are undertaking on 28 May 2009 to continue to be granted and to receive allowances in respect of that course, or any subsequent course that forms part of the same course of study (for example, a degree course), until the close of 31 December 2011.

Approval for Rural Assistance Under Special Needs Grants Programme
Under clauses 18.2 and 18.6 of the Special Needs Grants Programme (“the programme”), as established and approved on 18 December 1998* under section 124(1)(d) of the Social Security Act 1964, I give my approval for Part 6 of the programme to apply as follows:
Rural Assistance – Farmers

Farmers in the territory of the Whakatane District Council, whose land-based industries are directly affected by drought, are eligible to be considered for financial assistance under Part 6 of the programme.

In relation to those farmers, Part 6 of the programme applies for the period beginning on the day after this approval is given and ending with the close of 31 December 2009, unless further extended by the Minister.

New Zealand Superannuation and Retirement Income Act 2001
Ministerial Direction Regarding the Government’s Expectation in Relation to the New Zealand Superannuation Fund’s Performance
Pursuant to section 64 of the New Zealand Superannuation and Retirement Income Act 2001 (“the Act”) and in accordance with section 115 of the Crown Entities Act 2004, I direct the Guardians of New Zealand Superannuation (“the Guardians”) to note that it is the Government’s expectation, in relation to the New Zealand Superannuation Fund’s (“Fund”) performance, that opportunities that would enable the Guardians to increase the allocation of New Zealand’s assets in the Fund should be appropriately identified and considered by the Guardians.
This direction is not intended to be inconsistent with the Guardians’ duty to invest the Fund on a prudent, commercial basis, in accordance with section 58 of the Act, and the above paragraph is subject to that duty.
