Land Transport Rule: Traffic Control Devices 2004

Alternative Pedestrian Traffic Signal Display Trial Extension

Pursuant to subclause 3.4(1) of the Land Transport Rule: Traffic Control Devices 2004 and pursuant to a sub-delegation to me by the New Zealand Transport Agency, I, Lyndon Bryan Hammond, National Manager Network Management, hereby authorise the continuation until Friday, 30 April 2010 of the installation and maintenance of alternative pedestrian traffic signal displays according to the purposes, form, layout, and operation as described in Schedules 1 and 2 of the notice entitled "Alternative Pedestrian Traffic Signal Display Trial" which was published in the New Zealand Gazette.

The locations for the extended trial will be:

(i) Railway Avenue, west of Herbert Street, Lower Hutt;

(ii) Knights Road, 24 metres east of Myrtle Street, Lower Hutt;

(iii) Daysh Street, 60 metres southeast of High Street, Lower Hutt;

(iv) Woburn Road, 110 metres southeast of Myrtle Street, Lower Hutt;

(v) The Esplanade, between Victoria and Fitzherbert Streets, Petone;

(vi) Queens Drive, 35 metres north of its southern intersection with High Street, Lower Hutt; and

(vii) Ludlam Crescent, 35 metres north of Whites Line East, Lower Hutt.

The period of the extended trial is from 1 November 2009 to 30 April 2010.

The conditions of the extended trial are that evaluations are to be undertaken of:

(a) pedestrian understanding of and compliance with these devices at sites (ii) to (vii); and

(b) the effectiveness and reliability of the installed pedestrian detection equipment.

The evaluation reports shall be received by me by Friday, 30 April 2010.
