Summary of Exemptions Granted by the Director of Civil Aviation
Pursuant to section 37 of the Civil Aviation Act 1990, notification is hereby given of a summary of exemptions, set out in the Schedule hereto, granted by the Director of Civil Aviation.

On: 9 April 2002.
To: Air New Zealand Limited.
From the Requirement in: Civil Aviation Rule 121.303 (b) that the holder of an air operator certificate shall establish the actual weights of goods and checked baggage.
Only With Respect to: Checked baggage accepted by Air New Zealand Limited via the interline-transfer baggage system at Los Angeles, Honolulu and London Heathrow airports, and for which no actual baggage weight information is available.

To: Airwork (NZ) Limited.
From the Requirement in: Civil Aviation Rule 121.379 to ensure that each of its turbine powered aeroplanes is equipped with a GPWS.
Only With Respect to: Fokker F27 aircraft, registration ZK-NAO, operated in full cargo configuration from 31 May 2002 until 31 December 2002.

Aircraft registration ZK-KFL from 1 July 2002 to 31 December 2002.

From the Requirement in: Civil Aviation Rule 47.101 (a) (1) that the aircraft display the allocated registration mark, effective from 20 April 2002 to 20 May 2002 inclusive.

To: East Line Airlines, being the holder of a foreign air operator certificate.
From the Requirement in: Civil Aviation Rule 91.803 (2) that aircraft operated to or from any aerodrome within New Zealand is certificated for Stage 3 noise levels.
Only With Respect to: The operation of Ilyushin IL-86 aircraft, registration RA-86139, on the scheduled flights for United Nations peacekeeping contingent rotation between New Zealand and Baucau, East Timor, from 5 May 2002 until 28 May 2002 inclusive.
Notice of the grant, withdrawal or denial of exemptions with provisos is published in the Civil Aviation Rules Register Information Leaflet (CARRIL).
For the proviso, refer to issue dated 2 May 2002.

Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act 1996
Determination of New Organisms
Pursuant to section 26 of the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act 1996, the Environmental Risk Management Authority hereby determines that the following is not a new organism:
Phaeodactylum tricornutum (Bohlin, 1897).
The Auckland University approval to hold Phaeodactylum tricornutum within containment (approval code NOC001522) therefore ceases to have effect.

Traffic Regulations 1976
Exemption for Certain Classes of Motor Vehicles From Specified Requirements of the Traffic Regulations 1976 Relating to Directional Indicator Lamps
Pursuant to Regulation 90 (1) of the Traffic Regulations 1976, I, James Lindsay Graham Bell, Technical Co-ordinator, Vehicle Certification Unit, hereby exempt motor vehicles of the classes specified in Schedule 1 of this notice from the requirements of Regulation 63 (2) (a) and 63 (4) (a), subject to the conditions specified in Schedule 2.

Conditions
(i) This exemption relates only to the prescribed height requirement for direction indicator lamps.
