New Zealand Geographic Board Act 1946

Notice of Final Decision to Assign Place Names

Pursuant to section 15 of the New Zealand Geographic Board Act 1946, notice is hereby given of the final decision of the New Zealand Geographic Board to assign the names stated in the first column of the Schedule below, to the places described in the second column of the said Schedule and that such decisions shall take effect on 29 February 2000.

Schedule

Wellington Land District

Ruatangata Railway Station
Located approximately 3km east of Whangaehu, at the intersection between Ruatangata Road and the Marton New Plymouth Railway. Topographic map 260 S22 Whangaehu, GR 2698100E 6131500N. Currently named Whangaehu Railway Station.

Nelson Land District

Mount Snowdon
Mountain along the currently named Snowdon Range, between Lake Stanley and Waingaro River. Topographic map 260 M26 Cobb, GR 2476600E 6019000N. Currently named Mount Snowden.

Snowdon Range
Range, extending south easterly from Douglas Range and situated between Lake Stanley and Waingaro River. Topographic map 260 M26 Cobb, from GR 2472800E 6020600N to GR 2479800E 6018100N. Currently named Snowden Range.

Westland/Canterbury Land District

Mount Montgomery
Mountain along the main divide and at the head of the Mueller Glacier. Topographic map 260 H36 Aoraki/Mount Cook, GR 2267000E 5712300N. Currently named Mount Montgomery.

Canterbury Land District

Mount Schiehallion
Mountain along the Poplars Range, south of the Lewis Pass. Topographic map 260 M32 Boyle, GR 2468200E 5852900N. Currently named Mount Schehallien.

Otago Land District

Johnston
Locality situated on State Highway 8 between Lawrence and Milton. Topographic map 260 H45 Milton, GR 2259600E 5461600N. Currently named Johnstone.

Southland Land District

Katherine Bay
Bay situated along the eastern shore of Lake Te Anau and opposite the North Fiord. Topographic map 260 D42 Livingstone, GR 2104800E 5553300N. Not named on current mapping.

Lone Island
Small island located in the proposed Katherine Bay. Topographic map 260 D42 Livingstone, GR 2104600E 5553300N. Not named on current mapping.

Notice of Intention to Assign a Place Name

Pursuant to section 12 of the New Zealand Geographic Board Act 1946, notice is hereby given of the intention of the New Zealand Geographic Board to assign the new name stated in the first column of the Schedule below, to the respective place described in the second column of the Schedule.

Objection to the proposed name may be given in writing, setting out the grounds for objection, to the Secretary of the New Zealand Geographic Board, care of Land Information New Zealand, Private Box 5501, Wellington, within a period of 3 months from the date of the New Zealand Gazette containing this notice.

Mount Blackadder
Mountain at height 1556m, approximately 9km north west of Springs Junction. Topographic map 260 L31 Springs Junction, GR 2438500E 5882440N. Not named on current mapping. Earlier position advertised in New Zealand Gazette 1999, page 3841, altered to this mountain.
