Notes to Diagrams
A. All dimensions are minima and are shown in millimetres.
B. Size of lettering is shown by two figures separated by a diagonal slash. The first figure shows letter height, the second stroke width.
C. Electronic School Zone sign:
(a) the speed value and roundel are depicted respectively by yellow and red light emitting diodes.
(b) the yellow corner lights flash diagonally 2 at a time.
(c) the SCHOOL ZONE sign has black legend and border on a fluorescent yellow-green background.
D. Fixed School Zone sign has black legend and border on a white background with the roundel reflectiorised red. The legend showing the time may be varied to depict the time during which the part-time speed limit is in effect.
E. Type I School Zone Ends sign is comprised of a R22 Speed Limit sign, depicting the appropriate speed limit value, mounted above the rectangular SCHOOL ZONE ENDS sign which has black legend and border on a fluorescent yellow-green background.
F. Type II School Zone Ends sign has black legend and border on a white background with the roundel reflectorised red. The legend within the roundel shall depict the appropriate speed limit value.
3. Operation of Part-time School Speed Limit Zones
For the purposes of the Part-time School Speed Limit Zones Trial, the following conditions shall apply:
(a) all terms and conditions of the Christchurch City Traffic and Parking Alteration (No 3) Bylaw 1999 and the Transit New Zealand (Part Time School Speed Zones Bylaw) Bylaw 1999/16 or consequential amendments are complied with;
(b) when the light emitting diodes depicting a speed value and a red roundel of the electronic school zone sign are illuminated the speed indicated by the display shall be the maximum speed permitted within the Part-time School Speed Limit Zone;
(c) the speed indicated on the fixed school zone signs shall be the maximum speed permitted within the Part-time School Speed Limit Zone during any of the periods displayed on the signs.

Transport (Vehicle Standards) Regulations 1990
Exemption for Certain Classes of Motor Vehicles From the Requirement of the Transport (Vehicle Standards) Regulations 1990 Relating to Compliance With an Appropriate Vehicle Standard for Brakes
Pursuant to regulation 36 of the Transport (Vehicle Standards) Regulations 1990, I, Jörg Simon Mager, Senior Engineer Vehicle Policy, hereby exempt motor vehicles of all classes in group L and of classes MD1, MD2, TA and TB from regulation 13 (8) of the Transport (Vehicle Standards) Regulations 1990, subject to the conditions specified in Schedule 1.
Schedule 1
Conditions
(i) This exemption expires on the day a Land Transport Rule made under the Land Transport Act 1998 covering brakes on motor vehicles of the classes specified above comes into force and the corresponding provisions of the Transport (Vehicle Standards) Regulations 1990 are amended or revoked so as to no longer cover the vehicle classes concerned;
(ii) Irrespective of (i) above, this exemption expires on 1 January 2006.

Exemption for Certain Classes of Motor Vehicles From the Requirement of the Transport (Vehicle Standards) Regulations 1990 Relating to Compliance With an Appropriate Vehicle Standard for Brakes
Pursuant to regulation 36 of the Transport (Vehicle Standards) Regulations 1990, I, Jörg Simon Mager, Senior Engineer Vehicle Policy, hereby exempt motor vehicles of classes MD3, MD4, ME, NB, NC, TB and TC from regulation 13 (8) of the Transport (Vehicle Standards) Regulations 1990, subject to the conditions specified in Schedule 1.
