(f) One member appointed by the Associations of Employers listed in the First Schedule after consultation with the New Zealand Employers Federation.
(g) One member appointed by the Associations of Employees listed in the Second Schedule after consultation with the New Zealand Council of Trade Unions.
(h) In the period up to 1 January 2002 four members appointed by the Professional Bodies listed in the Third Schedule.
(i) From 1 January 2002 two members appointed by the Professional Bodies listed in the Third Schedule.
(j) Two members appointed by the Auckland District Maori Council.
(k) One member appointed by the Ministry of Pacific Island Affairs after consultation with the Auckland Pacific Island communities.
(l) One member appointed by the Auckland City Council.
(m) One member appointed by the North Shore City Council.
(n) In the period up to 1 January 2002 one member to be co-opted by the Auckland University of Technology Council, if and when it sees fit.
(o) From 1 January 2002 up to three members to be co-opted by the Auckland University of Technology Council, if and when it sees fit.

Prior to 1 January 2000 the Minister may, by written notice to the Chief Executive of the Auckland University of Technology, direct that the persons elected to the corresponding positions on the Auckland Institute of Technology Council, is or are to be a member or members of the Auckland University of Technology Council until the corresponding member or members referred to in paragraphs 1 (e) and (d) is or are elected.

No person who is a permanent member of staff of the Auckland University of Technology, or who is a student of the Auckland University of Technology shall be eligible for election, appointment or co-option as a member of council, other than those persons elected or appointed pursuant to paragraphs 1 (a), (b), (c), (d) and (e).

The term of office of members of the council, vacation of office, disclosure of members’ interest and casual vacancies are covered in sections 173–176 of the Education Act 1989.

Subject to section 173 of the Education Act 1989, the maximum term for any member, other than the Chief Executive Officer, shall be two consecutive 4-year terms.

No act or proceeding of the Auckland University of Technology Council, or of any committee of the council, shall be invalidated because of:
(a) A defect in the appointment, election or co-option of a member of the council, or of any committee of the council; or
(b) A vacancy in the membership of the council, or of any committee of the council.
