Traffic Regulations 1976

Information Signs

Pursuant to regulation 129 (6) of the Traffic Regulations 1976 and an instrument of sub-delegation by the Director of Land Transport Safety dated the 3rd day of May 1999, I, John Paul Edgar, Manager Safer Roads, approve the erection, installation and maintenance of Information Signs as described in the First Schedule and subject to the conditions described in the Second Schedule.

First Schedule

This notice applies to the Information Signs, being variable message signs installed as a component of the Auckland Motorway Advanced Traffic Management System, providing a range of information to motorists including details about:

(a) traffic and road conditions applying and advice to motorists on alternative actions they might take as a result; or

(b) future activity on or near the motorway network which will affect motorists using the network in terms of route choice or travel delays.

Second Schedule

The Information Signs, being those variable message signs installed on the Auckland Motorway network, must be in accordance with the following:

  1. Shape and Size:

Be rectangular and able to accommodate up to three lines of legend

  1. Background colour:

Black

  1. Border:

Black

  1. Lettering:

The letters must be yellow, formed by the illumination of light emitting diodes, and conform with or have similar visual characteristics to standard alphabets for road signs with upper case characters of a size not smaller than 400 mm in height.

  1. Legend:

(a) The procedures for determining which legend will be displayed at any time will be determined by protocols and strategies defined in the Operational Procedures Manual approved from time to time by the General Manager, Transit New Zealand.

(b) The wording of any legend used must conform to one of those contained in the library of messages approved in terms of, or one developed by means of the protocol defined in, the said Operating Procedures Manual.

(c) The message shall be displayed and, as the circumstances determine, removed in accordance with strategies defined in the said Operating Procedures Manual.

Regulations 1990

Exemption From Specified Requirements of the Transport (Vehicle Standards) Regulations 1990

Pursuant to regulation 36 of the Transport (Vehicle Standards) Regulations 1990, I, John Richard Wolf, Vehicle Compliance Officer, hereby exempt the motor vehicle specified in Schedule 1 of this notice from the requirements of the Transport (Vehicle Standards) Regulations 1990 listed in Schedule 2, subject to the conditions specified in Schedule 3.

(ii) This exemption may be revoked at any time.
