Objects to Cape Kidnappers being in the proposed Napier Electorate as the area has a strong historical association with Hastings in the Tukituki Electorate.

Suggested solution Similar to Objection 34/002.

34 005 b,h Objection New Zealand Labour Party
Objects to the Gracelands Resthome on Pakowhai Road being in the Napier Electorate.

Suggested solution Move the Napier/Tukituki boundary line to cut north past Havelock North to reach the coast at Te Awanga.

34 006 b,h Objection Ngati Mutunga O Wharekauri Inc.
Object to the inclusion of Chatham Islands in the Napier Electorate. This is another example of Government’s prescribed template imposed on the Ngati Mutunga O Wharekauri people.

Suggested solution That the proposed Electoral Districts 1998 be withheld and not become effective for the Chatham Islands.

34 007 b,h Objection Alliance Party
Similar to Objection 34/002 but on the grounds that as much community of interest with Gisborne exists.

Suggested solution Include the Chatham Islands either in Mahia if other suggested changes are made to that electorate or combine it with Wellington Central or Rongotai to retain continuity of representation.

35 Tukituki

Note The Opotiki District Council has filed an objection with consequential changes for this electorate. Please see Objection 33/009 (Mahia) for details

Objects to the electoral population of the proposed Tukituki Electorate not being raised to above the mean. Tukituki boundaries will require change in 5 years based on current projections.

Suggested solution Include more of the Hawke’s Bay rural area in the Tukituki Electorate.

Objects to the inclusion of the Porangahau statistical area unit and part of the Elsthorpe-Flemington statistical area unit on the grounds that projected changes in population will leave the proposed Wairarapa
