2. Interpretation
In this notice, unless the context otherwise requires:
the “Act” means the Forest and Rural Fires Act 1977;
the “committee” means the Southern Plantations Rural Fire Committee;
the “district” means the Southern Plantations Rural Fire District; and
the “notice” means the Southern Plantations Rural Fire District Notice 1998.
CONSTITUTION OF THE RURAL FIRE DISTRICT
3. Declaration of Rural Fire District
(1) The areas set out in the Schedule to this notice are hereby constituted and declared to be the district.
(2) For the purposes of the Act the district shall be administered by the committee.
(3) The committee shall consist of 10 members as follows:
(a) Two persons appointed by Rayonier New Zealand Limited, in writing, signed on behalf of that company by one director and the secretary thereof; and
(b) Two persons appointed by Ernslaw One Limited, in writing, signed on behalf of that company by one director and the secretary thereof; and
(c) One person appointed by Craigpine Timber Limited, in writing, signed on behalf of that company by one director and the secretary thereof; and
(d) One person appointed by the New Zealand Farm Forestry Association Incorporated (Southland Branch) in writing, signed on behalf of that organisation by the president and secretary thereof to represent small forest owners encompassed in the district; and
(e) One person appointed by Federated Farmers Southland Incorporated, in writing, signed on behalf of Federated Farmers by the chairperson and secretary thereof to represent those landowners encompassed in the district; and
(f) One person appointed by The Southland District Council, in writing, signed on behalf of the council by the chief executive and secretary thereof; and
(g) One person appointed by The Clutha District Council, in writing, signed on behalf of the council by the chief executive and secretary thereof; and
(h) One person appointed in writing, by the director general of the Department of Conservation.
SCHEDULE
Otago and Southland Land Districts
All those parcels containing 155 798 hectares, more or less, as shown on S.O. Plan 24584 and S.O. Plan 24627, lodged in the office of the Chief Surveyor, Otago, and S.O. Plan 12110, lodged in the office of the Chief Surveyor, Southland, as the same on those plans numbered NRFA 126 deposited in the headquarters of the New Zealand Fire Service at Wellington.

Reserves Act 1977
Vesting of Maraekowhai Historic Reserve
The Minister of Conservation vests the reserve described in the Schedule in the Maraekowhai Whenua Trustees appointed by Maori Land Court Order made at 78 Aotea Minute Book 133–140 of 15 December 1997, representing Ngati Hauraoa te Rangi, in trust for the purposes of a historic reserve and further requires as a condition of vesting the trustees prepare a plan which addresses administration and management of the reserve and that this plan make particular reference to urupa burial grounds in the reserve.

Vesting of Reserves
Pursuant to the Reserves Act 1977, and to a delegation from the Minister of Conservation, the Conservator, Canterbury, hereby vests the reserve, described in the Schedule hereto, in The Christchurch City Council, in trust for recreation purposes.

Revocation of the Reservation Over a Reserve
Pursuant to the Reserves Act 1977, and to a delegation from the Minister of Conservation, the Community Board revokes the reservation over the reserve, being Section 18 Block II Opihi Survey District containing 8.0995 hectares, more or less, SO Plan 45951.
