(2) This notice shall come into force on the day after its publication in the Gazette.

  1. Interpretation—(1) Clause 2 (1) of the principal notice is hereby amended by inserting, in the appropriate alphabetical order, the following definitions:

(a) “ETS” means a standard published by the European Technical Standards Institute;

(b) “ARIB” means a standard published by the Association of Radio Industries and Businesses in Japan;

  1. Standards for industrial, scientific and medical radio frequency equipment—(1) Clause 3 (3) (a) of the principal notice is hereby amended by omitting the expression “1990” and substituting the expression “1997”.

(2) Clause 3 (3) (b) of the principal notice is hereby amended by adding the expression “including Amendment 1” after the expression “1992”.

  1. Standards for sound and television broadcast receivers and associated equipment—(1) Clause 4 (3) (a) of the principal notice is hereby amended by omitting the expression “1990 including Amendments 1, 2 and 3” and substituting the expression “1996”.

(2) Clause 4 (3) (b) of the principal notice is hereby amended by omitting the expression “1992” and substituting the expression “1996”.

(3) Clause 4 (3) (c) of the principal notice is hereby amended by omitting the expression “1990” and substituting the expression “1997”.

  1. Standards for appliances the main functions of which are performed by motors and switching or regulating devices, unless the radio-frequency energy is intentionally generated or intended for illumination—(1) Clause 5 (3) (a) of the principal notice is hereby amended by adding the expression “including Amendment 1” after the expression “1993”.

(2) Clause 5 (3) (b) of the principal notice is hereby amended by adding the expression “including Amendment 1” after the expression “1995”.

(3) Clause 5 (3) (c) of the principal notice is hereby amended by omitting the expression “1993” and substituting the expression “1997”.

  1. Standards for lighting equipment with a primary purpose of generating and/or distributing light, the lighting part of multi-function equipment, independent auxiliaries, neon advertising signs, and street and flood lighting—(1) Clause 6 (3) (a) of the principal notice is hereby amended by omitting the expression “1992” and substituting the expression “1996 including Amendment 1”.

(2) Clause 6 (3) (c) of the principal notice is hereby amended by omitting the expression “1993” and substituting the expression “1996”.

  1. Standard for overhead power lines—(1) Clause 7 (4) of the principal notice is hereby amended by adding the expression “including Amendments 1 and 2” after the expression “1986”.

  2. Standards for information technology equipment—(1) Clause 8 (3) (a) of the principal notice is hereby amended by omitting the expression “1993” and substituting the expression “1997”.

(2) Clause 8 (3) (b) of the principal notice is hereby amended by adding the expression “including Amendments 1 and 2” after the expression “1995”.

  1. Standard for restricted radiation radio apparatus—Clause 19 (3) of the principal notice is hereby amended by omitting the expression “Issue 7, February 1996” and substituting the expression “Issue 8, February 1998”.

  2. New clauses inserted—The principal notice is hereby amended by inserting, after clause 19A, the following clauses:

19B. Standard for Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications (DECT) radio apparatus—(1) Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications (DECT) radio apparatus are hereby prescribed as a class of interfering equipment.

(2) The level of conformity applicable to the class of interfering equipment to which subclause (1) of this clause applies shall be level 1.

(3) The standard applicable to the class of interfering equipment to which subclause (1) of this clause applies shall be ETS 300 176-1, November 1996.

19C. Standard for Personal Handy Phone System (PHS) radio apparatus—(1) Personal Handy Phone System (PHS) radio apparatus are hereby prescribed as a class of interfering equipment.

(2) The level of conformity applicable to the class of interfering equipment to which subclause (1) of this clause applies shall be level 1.

(3) The standard applicable to the class of interfering equipment to which subclause (1) of this clause applies shall be ARIB RCR STD-28, Version 2, December 1995.

Explanatory Note

This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This notice prescribes the standards applicable to classes of interfering equipment (as defined in section 2 (1) of the Radiocommunications Act 1989).

Radiocommunications (Radio) Regulations (General Licence for Personal Handy Phone System) Notice 1998

Pursuant to regulation 13 of the Radiocommunications (Radio) Regulations 1993 (“the regulations”), and acting under delegated authority from the Secretary of Commerce, I hereby give the following notice:

Notice

  1. Short title and commencement—(1) This notice may be cited as the Radiocommunications (Radio) Regulations (General Licence for Personal Handy Phone System) Notice 1998.

(2) This notice shall come into force on 1 March 1998.

  1. Interpretation—For the purposes of this notice:

(a) “Wireless local loop” means a telecommunications system which provides wireless access to a network for a number of handsets or terminals or data terminals, typically to serve a residential area, but does not include a system which allows for the automatic switching of handsets or terminals or data terminals between telecommunications systems.

(b) “Public service” means a system which enables a subscriber to use a handset or terminal or data terminal to access a network to make and/or receive telephone calls in public places where base stations have been installed and includes a system which allows for the automatic switching of handsets or terminals between telecommunications systems.
