Explanatory Notes
The Orikaka Ecological Area is held for conservation purposes to protect indigenous intrinsic natural values and resources, ecological and evolutionary systems, and in particular to protect the values specified in these explanatory notes.
The Orikaka Ecological Area, in the Ngakawau and Buller Ecological Districts, protects landforms, geological and soil features and extensive unmodified forest in an altitudinal sequence from the Buller River to the Glasgow Range. It features cedar-podocarp-beech forest in the upper basin, pakihi shrubland and dwarf/low forest ecosystems on coal measures, alluvial and swamp land forests around Lake Raha, and extensive mixed beech forests on dissected hill country.

Reserves Act 1977
Declaration that Land is a Reserve
Pursuant to the Reserves Act 1977, and to a delegation from the Minister of Conservation, the Community Relations Manager of the Nelson/Marlborough Conservancy of the Department of Conservation, hereby notifies that the following resolution was passed by The Tasman District Council on the 20th day of August 1998:
"That in exercise of the powers conferred on it by section 14 of the Reserves Act 1977, The Tasman District Council hereby resolves that the piece of land held by the said council in fee simple and described in the Schedule hereto, shall be, and the same is hereby, declared to be a local purpose (hall) reserve within the meaning of the said Act".

1052 square metres, more or less, being Lot 2, D.P. 7510, situated in Block XII, Wai-iti Survey District. All certificate of title 3A/1113.

Revocation of the Reservation Over a Reserve—Mount Maunganui Fire Station Site
Pursuant to section 24 of the Reserves Act 1977, and to a delegation from the Minister of Conservation, the Community Relations Manager for the Bay of Plenty Conservancy of the Department of Conservation, hereby revokes the reservation over the reserve for a fire station described in the Schedule hereto, and declares that the said land may be disposed of by the New Zealand Fire Service Commission, in such manner and for such price or other consideration and on such terms and conditions as the Commission shall determine, with the net proceeds of sale applied to the Reserve Fund of the Commission.

Setting Apart Maori Freehold Land as a Maori Reservation
Pursuant to section 439 of the Maori Affairs Act 1953, on the recommendation of the Maori Land Court, the Maori freehold land described in the Schedule hereto, is hereby set apart as a Maori reservation for the purpose of a marae for the common use and benefit of the Ngati Manunui hapu of the Ngati Tuwharetoa Tribe.

In the notice issued on 6 October 1994 and published in the New Zealand Gazette, No. 101, page 3025, is hereby amended by including the name of 1 of 5 owners, namely Ngamare Tumahuki, who was inadvertently omitted from the recommendation and therefrom the subsequent New Zealand Gazette notice.
