  1. CLOSED SEASON
    No licence holder shall fish for:

3.1 Sportsfish:
3.1.1 In the Awakino River
3.1.2 In the Tinwald Domain Pond if the holder of other than a child’s licence.
3.1.3 In the Rangitata River and tributaries upstream of Turn Again Point and shown by the white posts on the riverbank between 1 March and 30 April inclusive.

3.2 Salmon:
3.2.1 In Lake Heron between 1 March and 30 April inclusive.
3.2.2 In the Waitaki River and its tributaries between the Waitaki Dam and the mouth of the Maerewhenua River between 1 April and 30 April inclusive.

  1. AUTHORISED TACKLE

4.1 No licence holder when fishing for sportsfish shall use:
4.1.1 Any hook which has a gap greater than 14 mm between the point and the nearest part of the hook.
4.1.2 Any artificial fly having more than one hook or having a multiple hook.
4.1.3 In conjunction with any lure, any lead or weight affixed to the trace or line at a distance of less than 38 cm or more than 150 cm above the lure.
4.1.4 Any unsportsmanlike device or method.

4.2 No licence holder shall continue to fish on any day after having foulhooked three sportsfish, even though any such sportsfish have been returned immediately in accordance with the 1st Schedule of this notice.

4.3 A licence holder when fishing for sportsfish in the Ashburton, Rangitata, or Orari Rivers or their tributaries -
4.3.1 May use only one artificial fly or spinner when any weight is attached
4.3.2 May use more than one hook only when bait fishing
4.3.3 May use, seaward of a line drawn between the 2 poles situated near the upstream limit of the estuarine area, an artificial fly only if the total weight of everything attached to the cast does not exceed 28 grams.
