1. Interpretations
For interpretation of terms refer to the first schedule of this Notice or the Freshwater Fisheries Regulations 1983.
2. Open Season
2.1 Trout and Perch.
The season duration for the following waters shall be all year:
Karamea River, downstream of cableway at the mouth of lower gorge.
Little Wanganui River, downstream of the S/H No. 67 bridge
Mokihinui River, downstream from the cableway at Welcome Creek.
Buller River, downstream of Lyell confluence
Martin’s Creek downstream of main Rd. bridge
Nile River, downstream of Awakere confluence
Grey River, downstream of Clarke confluence
Lake Brunner (Note clause 3)
Arnold River
New River Estuary downstream of S/H 6
Taramakau River, downstream of Stanley Gooseman Bridge at Jacksons
Kumara Reservoir
Kapitea Reservoir
Arahura River downstream of Landsborough bridge
Hokitika River, downstream of swingbridge at lower gorge.
Kokatahi River, downstream of Styx confluence
Lake Mahinapua and Mahinapua Creek
Lake Kaniere
Kaniere River
Lake Ianthe and outlet stream
Big Wanganui River
Poerua River (Sth. Westland)
Whataroa River
Lake Wahapo
Lakes Mapourika, Paringa, and Moeraki
Karangarua River
Lake Ellery
All other waters south of the Hokitika River, downstream of S/H 6 and Haast / Cascade Rd.
All other waters for trout and perch 1 October - 30 April (incl.)
2.2 Open season for salmon
All waters 1 October - 31 March (incl.)
3. Closed waters
3.1 In Lake Brunner fishing is not permitted within 100 metres of any inflowing tributary between 1 April and 30 September.
3.2 McDonalds creek at lake Mapourika is closed to fishing at all times.
