6.1 Catch and Release Only
All sports fish caught in the following waters must be released immediately back into the waters from which they were taken with as little injury as possible:
- Mangaoraka Stream from the bridge at Te Arei Road West upstream to the bridge at Corbett Road;
- Kaiauai Stream upstream of the bridge at Alfred Road;
- Stony River from the bridge at State Highway 45 upstream to the bridge at Mangatete Road;
- Kapuni Stream upstream from the bridge at Skeet Road.
6.2 No licence holder shall on any day kill more than two (2) sports fish, other than perch, from the following waters:
- Virginia Lake;
- Raetihi Hydro Dam;
- Lake Wiritoa;
- Manganuiateao River and its tributaries;
- Lake Namanamu;
- All waters originating on the slopes of Mount Egmont/Taranaki, but excluding the Waingongoro River downstream from Eltham Road and waters specified in Section 6.1 of this notice.
6.3 No licence holder shall on any day kill more than four (4) sports fish, other than perch, from all other waters in the region.
6.4 There shall be no limit on the number of perch killed by a licence holder.
- MINIMUM LENGTH
7.1 There is no length limit for sports fish caught in the Taranaki Fish and Game Region.
- VIRGINIA LAKE (WANGANUI)
8.1 The following rules apply to the waters of Virginia Lake:
- Only child, junior and young adult licence holders may fish for sports fish;
- No fly casting;
- No fishing from the paved area in front (western end) of the lake.
- SPECIAL LICENCES FOR THE DISABLED
9.1 The Taranaki Fish and Game Region is authorised to issue special licences authorising any disabled person, within the meaning of the Disabled Persons Employment Act 1960, to fish for sports fish by any means that would otherwise be unlawful.
