  1. BAIT FISHING WATERS

No licence holder shall use any bait except for natural fly, natural insect or natural crustacean (excluding koura) in any waters of the Eastern Fish and Game Region.

  1. USE OF BOATS

7.1 No licence holder shall fish for trout from a boat in the following waters:

a) the Tarawera River from its outlet from Lake Tarawera to the Tarawera Falls situated approximately 2500 metres downstream;

b) that section of the Tarawera Outlet enclosed by landmarks;

c) in the designated winter shoreline fishing areas on lakes Tarawera, Rotoiti and Okataina (Schedule 2, Clause 2), from the 1st day of July to the 30th day of September;

d) the Ohau Channel and those sections in lakes Rotorua and Rotoiti that are within a 200 metre radius from the centre of the Ohau Channel as indicated by landmarks.

e) the area within a radius of 15 metres of the Wairua Stream mouth on Lake Tarawera.

7.2 No licence holder shall fish for trout from any boat in waters reserved for artificial fly fishing as specified in Schedule 2, Clause 5, or, within waters contained within a 200 metres radius around the centre of the Utuhina Stream mouth, unless the boat is securely anchored with no more than two anchors;

  1. DAILY BAG LIMITS

8.1

  • The Ruakituri River and tributaries above the Waitangi Falls 2 trout
  • The Horomanga River and tributaries 2 trout
  • All other waters 8 trout

8.2 Any licence holder taking a male trout within 200m radius of the mouth of the Te Wairoa Stream, Lake Tarawera shall return it to the water immediately with as little injury as possible.

8.3 No licence holder shall kill more than 2 brown trout in a daily bag limit of 8 trout from Lake Waikaremoana.

  1. MINIMUM AND MAXIMUM LENGTH TO BE TAKEN

9.1 Lakes Rotorua, Okataina, Rotoma, Rotoehu, Okareka, Rotomahana, Rerewhakaaitu, Tikitapu, Ngapouri, Ngahewa, Waikaremoana, Waikareiti, Whakamarino, Kaitawa or their tributaries. Lake Rotoiti, the Ohau Channel and the Kaituna River above the flow control structure. Lake Tarawera including that section of the Tarawera River between the downstream end of the trout spawning sanctuary at the Tarawera Outlet and the falls approximately 2500 metres downstream from the Outlet 350 mm minimum

9.2 Ruakituri River and tributaries above Waitangi Falls 300 mm minimum
600 mm maximum

9.3 Ngongotaha Trout Hatchery Children’s Fishing Pond No limit

9.4 All other waters 300 mm minimum

9.5 No licence holder shall keep or kill any wild rainbow trout larger than 650 mm caught in Lake Tarawera, including that section of the Tarawera River between the Tarawera Outlet and the falls approximately 2500 metres downstream from the Outlet.

  1. HOURS OF FISHING

No licence holder shall fish for any sports fish between 12 midnight and 5 am.
