CLOSED SEASON
No licence holder shall fish for sports fish at any time from the following waters;
3.1 all streams flowing into Lake Tarawera and that portion of the Tarawera River enclosed by landmarks at the Lake Tarawera Outlet and extending approximately 150m downstream to landmarks in the river, otherwise known as the Tarawera Outlet Spawning Sanctuary;
3.2 the Utuhina Stream above the Pukehangi Road bridge and all tributaries of this stream;
3.3 the following streams and their tributaries which flow into Lake Rotorua;
a) the Waiowhiro, Waiohewa, Waingaehe, Waimata and Waikuta Streams;
b) the Hamurana stream above the Hamurana Road bridge;
c) the Awahou Stream above the Hamurama Road bridge;
3.4 all springs, streams, and their tributaries which flow into Lake Waikareiti, and into or from lakes Rotoma, Rotoehu, Rotomahana, Rerewhakaaitu, Rotokakahi, Okareka, Okataina and Rotoiti except the Ohau Channel and the Kaituna River;
3.5 the Rangitaiki River for a distance of 80 metres below the Aniwhenua Barrage;
AUTHORISED TACKLE
4.1 No licence holder shall fish for sports fish with a set rod unless he or she is fishing from an unanchored boat.
4.2 No licence holder when fishing for sports fish shall use
a) any lead or weight (other than hooks as permitted elsewhere in this notice) attached as to hang below any lure
b) any hook which has a gape greater than 14mm between the point and the nearest part of the shank
c) any lure having more than one hook, or having a multiple hook, or any fixed assembly of hooks
d) more than 2 lures
e) any lure treated with any medicinal preparation other than a substance used solely to give buoyancy to an artificial fly
f) any downrigger, paravane, other device or weight (other than a running line) designed to sink a lure while trolling;
g) any gaff or landing hook;
h) any unsportsmanlike device or gear;
i) any electric fishing gear, except for the purposes of duly authorised scientific investigations or data collection;
j) any preparation to attract fish;
k) any narcotic, poisonous substance or liquid injurious to fish;
l) any stroke hauling or foul hooking gear.
4.3 No licence holder when fishing for sports fish shall have any spear, spear gun or pointed missile (other than a bullet).
4.4 Any metal cored or wire line may be used only in the waters of Lake Rotoma or those parts of Lake Okataina or Lake Tarawera which lie outside a radius 200 metres from the centre of the mouth or mouths of every stream, spring or river flowing into or out of either of these lakes, or that part of Lake Tarawera which lies outside a line, the ends of which are shown by landmarks on the shore at Stoney Point and Kariri Point, running parallel to and 200 metres from the shore.
FLY FISHING ONLY WATERS
Artificial fly fishing only shall be used in the following waters;
The Ohau Channel;
The Tarawera River from Lake Tarawera (excluding the trout spawning sanctuary) to the Tarawera Falls;
The section of Rangiuru Bay defined by landmarks at Stoney Point and Kariri Point, and extending 200m offshore;
All waters contained within 200 metres arc around the centre of every stream, spring, or river flowing into or out of lakes Rotoiti, Tarawera, Okataina, Rotoma, Rotoehu, Waikaremoana, Waikareiti and Rotorua excluding the Utuhina Stream downstream of the Lake Road bridge where spinners may also be used;
The Horomanga River and tributaries;
The Hopuruahine, Aniwaniwa, Korokoro, Mokau streams and all tributaries of these streams;
The Ruakituri and Hangaroa Rivers (including their tributaries) upstream from the base of the Te Reinga Falls;
The Wharekopae River;
The Waioeka River and Opato Stream (including tributaries) upstream from their confluence;
Lakes Whakamarino and Kaitawa (including all inflowing streams);
The Waimapu Stream.
