“'Ashburton Lakes'” means Lakes Clearwater, Denny, Donn, Emily, Emma, Heron, Maori Lakes, Roundabout, Spider, and their tributaries but does not include Lake Camp.

“'Upper Waitaki Lakes'” means Lakes Aviemore, Benmore, Middleton, Ohau, Ruataniwha including Wairepo Arm and Kellands Pond, Pukaki, and Tekapo.

“'Upper Waitaki Lakes Tributaries'” means tributaries to Lakes Aviemore, Benmore, Middleton, Ohau, Ruataniwha including Wairepo Arm and Kellands Ponds, Pukaki, and Tekapo except for the Ahuriri River upstream of and including Longslip Creek and the Tekapo River downstream of the lower powerlines across the river.

“'Waitaki Hydro Canals'” means Ohau ‘B’-Ohau ‘C’, Pukaki-Ohau, Ruataniwha-Ohau ‘B’ and Tekapo-Pukaki canals.

“'Winter Fishing Rivers'” means the Ashburton, Rangitata, Opihi, Pareora, Waitaki, and Kakanui Rivers below their SH 1 Bridges and does not include their tributaries.

2. Open Season

2.1 All waters of the Region except those specified in Sections 2.2 and 3 of this schedule

2.2 The following season durations apply to the waters listed below:

3. Closed Season

No licence holder shall fish for;

3.1 Sportsfish

3.1.1 in the Awakino River

3.1.2 in the Tinwald Domain Pond if the holder of other than a child’s licence.

3.2 Salmon

3.2.1 in Lake Heron between 1 March and 30 April

3.2.2 in the Rangitata River and tributaries above Turn Again Point and shown by white posts on the riverbank between 1 March and 30 April.

3.2.3 in the Waitaki River and its tributaries between the Waitaki Dam and the mouth of the Maerewhenua River between 1 April and 30 April.

3.3 Trout

3.3.1 in the Rangitata River and its tributaries above white posts on the riverbanks at Turn Again Point between 1 March and 30 April EXCEPT when fly fishing and undertaking catch and release. Catch and release requires that trout taken must be returned immediately with as little injury as possible to the waters from which they were taken.

4. Authorised Tackle

4.1 When playing a sportsfish a gaff may be used to secure or land that fish.

4.2 No licence holder when fishing for sportsfish shall use

4.2.1 Any lead or weight (other than hooks as permitted elsewhere in this notice) attached below or as to hang below any lure or bait

4.2.2 Any hook which has a gape greater than 14 mm between the point and the nearest part of the hook.

4.2.3 Any artificial fly having more than one hook or having a multiple hook

4.3 In conjunction with any spinner, any lead or weight affixed to the trace or line at a distance of less than 38 cm above the spinner.

4.4 Any unsportsmanlike device or method.

4.5 No licence holder shall continue to fish on any day after having foulhooked three sportsfish, even though any such sportsfish have been returned immediately in accordance with the 1st Schedule of this notice.

4.6 A licence holder when fishing for sportsfish in the Ashburton, Rangitata, or Orari Rivers or their tributaries—

4.6.1 May use only one artificial fly or spinner when any weight is attached

4.6.2 May use more than one hook only when bait fishing

4.6.3 Seaward of a line drawn between 2 poles situated on either side of the upstream limit of the estuarine area may use an artificial fly only if the total weight of everything attached to the cast does not exceed 28 grams.

4.6.4 May cast other than from the reel or retrieve other than by winding the reel only when using bait, or fly fishing or when fishing with an artificial fly seaward of a line drawn between 2 poles situated on either side of the upstream limit of the estuarine area.
