4.7 A licence holder, when fishing for sportsfish in the Opihi River or its tributaries, may cast other than from the reel or retrieve other than by winding the reel only when fly fishing or bait fishing.

4.8 When bait fishing for sportsfish licence holders shall not use more than three single hooks or two single and one treble.

5. Fly Fishing Only Waters

Ahuriri River Lagoons
Any High Country tarn or lagoon
Cameron, Loch
Clearwater, Lake
Deep Stream, a tributary of Lake Aviemore
Denny, Lake
Donn, Lake
Emily, Lake
Hakataramea River
Hinds River, provided that a Child or Junior licence holder may fish with any lawful lure
Maerewhenua River
Maori Lakes
Macgregor, Lake
Merino, Lake
Ohapi Stream
Omarama Stream upstream from SH 8 bridge
Poaka, Lake
Roundabout, Lake
Spider, Lake
Tengawai River

6. Bait Fishing Waters

6.1 Bait fishing is not permitted in the following waters (tributaries included):

Ahuriri River
Alexandrina, Lake
Ashburton River North Branch
Ashburton River South Branch upstream from and including the junction of Taylors Stream
Benmore, Lake if fished from a boat or floatation device
Camp, Lake
Emma, Lake
Kakanui River upstream from Five Forks bridge
Mystery, Lake
Ohau, Lake if fished from a boat or floatation device
Ohau River
Otemata River
Otemata River
Rangitata River upstream from white posts on the riverbanks at Turn Again Point
Tekapo River tributaries
Twizel River
Waiau River upstream from the Waiau Forks Bridges
Winter Fishing Rivers during the winter season.

7. Use of Boats

7.1 Fishing from boats is prohibited in:

Camp, Lake
Denny, Lake
Donn, Lake
Emily, Lake

7.2 Fishing from any unmoored boat is prohibited in:

Emma, Lake
MacGregor, Lake
Maori Lakes
Middleton, Lake

8. Daily Limit Bags

8.1 All waters within the region other than those stated in sections 8.2 and 8.3 of this notice shall have a daily limit bag of 6 sportsfish of which not more than 2 may be salmon and 4 may be trout.

8.2 The daily limit bag in the following waters and their tributaries shall be 2 sportsfish:

Ahuriri East Branch
Ahuriri River upstream from and including Longslip Creek
Emily, Lake
Jollie River
Kakanui River upstream from Clifton Falls Bridge
Maerewhenua North and South Branches
Ohau Lake tributaries
Omarama Stream
Otemata River
Otemata River upstream from and including Clear Stream
Twizel River
Waiau River upstream from the Waiau Forks Bridges
Winter fishing rivers during the winter season.

8.3 The daily limit bag in Lake Heron and its tributaries shall be 6 sportsfish of which not more than 4 may be trout.

9. Minimum Length

9.1 The minimum length for salmon killed in waters of the region shall be 300 mm except in Lake Heron where the minimum length shall be 250 mm.

OTAGO FISH AND GAME REGION

Reference to Description: Gazette, No. 83 of 24 May 1990, at page 1861.

1. Interpretation

“Fly fishing” In the Otago Region means to fish for sports fish with fly rod and reel and fly line and artificial fly, but with no additional weight to facilitate casting.

“Deans Bank” means that portion of the Clutha River lying downstream between a point indicated by a Black and Yellow landmark post approximately 600 metres from the outlet of Lake Wanaka, and a point indicated by a Black and Yellow landmark post, approximately 600 metres above the bridge at Albert Town.
