Rakaia River in the eastern zone | All year

Hurunui River in the eastern zone | All year

All other rivers in the eastern zone | 1 October to 30 April

2.2 Winter Season

Lake Coleridge, except within 200 m of any inflowing stream | 1 June to 30 September
Lake Selfe, except within 200 m of any inflowing stream | 1 June to 30 September
Lake Lyndon, except within 200 m of any inflowing stream | 1 June to 30 September
Lake Pearson, except within 200 m of any inflowing stream | 1 June to 30 September
Lake Taylor, except within 200 m of any inflowing stream | 1 June to 30 September
Lake Sumner, except within 200 m of any inflowing stream | 1 June to 30 September
Loch Katrine, except within 200 m of any inflowing stream | 1 June to 30 S

3. Closed Waters

3.1 No licence holder shall fish for sports fish in the following waters:
Lake Marion
Taylors Drain to its confluence with the Wairauapa Stream.
The Avon River between the Armagh and Barbadoes Street bridges.
St Annes Lagoon near Cheviot.

The Rakaia River and its tributaries in the western zone are closed for trout fishing from March 1 to September 30
Within 100 metres of the outfall of any licensed fish farm.
3.2 No licence holder shall fish for salmon in the following waters:
The Kowai River and its tributaries including Hacketts Creek are closed to salmon fishing from March 1 to September 30.

The Rakaia River during February above the power lines located approximately one kilometre downstream of the Glenariffe Hatchery.

4. Authorised Tackle

4.1 No licence holder when fishing for sports fish shall:
4.1.1 Use more than one lure when weight is attached in the Rakaia River between January 1 and April 30.
4.1.2 Use any unsportsmanlike device or method.
4.1.3 Use any artificial fly having more than one hook or having a multiple hook in Artificial Fly Only Waters.

4.2 No licence holder when fishing for salmon with natural bait shall use more than two hooks.

4.3 There shall be no restriction on lures, baits or the positioning of any weight in the Kaiapoi Lakes and the Rotokohatu Lake Coarse Fishing Areas.

4.4 When playing a sportsfish a gaff may be used to assist in the landing that fish.

5. Fly Fishing Only Waters

Lake Ida
Lake Little Ida
Lake Monck (Catherine)
Lake Sarah
Lake Marymere
Lake Sheppard.

6. Bait Fishing Waters

6.1 Bait fishing for trout is permitted in the eastern zone only.
6.2 Bait fishing for salmon is permitted in the Kaiapoi River only.

7. Use of Boats

7.1 Fishing from boats which are being mechanically propelled is permitted in:
All rivers
Lake Ellesmere
Lake Forsyth
Lake Coleridge
Lake Sumner

7.2 Fishing from boats which are not being mechanically propelled is permitted in:
All rivers
All eastern zone lakes
Lake Coleridge
Lake Georgina
Lake Lyndon
Lake Pearson
Lake Taylor
Loch Katrine
Lake Sumner

7.3 Anglers fishing from boats which are being mechanically propelled must stay at least 100 metres from any angler fishing from the shore.

8. Daily Limit Bags

8.1 Catch and Release Only
All sports fish caught in the following waters must be released immediately back into the waters from which they were taken with as little injury as possible:
Lake Marymere
Kaiapoi Lakes
Ashley River above the Oxford-Glentui Bridge
