12 SEPTEMBER NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE

Waitaiki Stream upstream from the bridge at State Highway No. 49;
Mangawhero River and its tributaries upstream from the “golf course” bridge at State Highway No. 49;
Raeitihi Hydro Dam.

2.3 The following waters are open from 1 October–30 April and then from 1 June–30 September:
Lake Rotorangi from the dam face to the Mangamingi ramp;
Lake Ratapiko, except the inlet race;
Stony (Hangatahua) River, Warea River, Kapoaiaia Stream, Waiau River, Mangawhume Stream, Otakeho Stream, Kaupokonui Stream, Waingongoro River, all downstream from the State Highway No. 45 bridges;
Patea River downstream from Patea Dam.

2.4 The following waters are open from 1 October–20 April and then from 10 July–30 September:
Lake Wiritoa;
Lake Pauri.

2.5 All other waters in the region are open from 1 October–30 April.

  1. Authorised Tackle
    3.1 No licence holder shall use any double or treble pointed hook, or any multiple hook assembly.

  2. Fly Fishing Only Waters
    4.1 The following waters are restricted to fly fishing only:
    Lake Mangamahoe, including the Waiwhakaiho inlet.

  3. Artificial Fly and Spinner Only Waters
    5.1 The following waters are restricted to artificial fly and spinner only:
    Mangaoraka Stream from the bridge at Te Rei Road West upstream to the bridge at Corbett Road;
    Kaiauai Stream upstream of the bridge at Alfred Road;
    Stony River from the bridge at State Highway 45 upstream to the bridge at Mangatete Road.

  4. Daily Limit Bag
    6.1 Catch and Release Only
    All sports fish caught in the following waters must be released immediately back into the waters from which they were taken with as little injury as possible:
    Mangaoraka Stream from the bridge at Te Rei Road West upstream to the bridge at Corbett Road;
    Kaiauai Stream upstream of the bridge at Alfred Road;
    Stony River from the bridge at State Highway 45 upstream to the bridge at Mangatete Road.

6.2 No licence holder shall on any day kill more than two (2) sports fish from the following waters:
Virginia Lake;
Lake Wiritoa;
Lake Namanu;
Raetihi Hydro Dam;
All waters originating on the slopes of Mount Egmont/Taranaki, but excluding the Waingongoro River downstream from Eltham Road.

6.3 No licence holder shall on any day kill more than four (4) sports fish from all other waters in the region.

6.4 There shall be no limit on the number of perch killed by a licence holder.

  1. Minimum Length
    7.1 There is no length limit for sports fish caught in the Taranaki Fish and Game Region.

  2. Virginia Lake (Wanganui)
    8.1 The following rules apply to the waters of Virginia Lake:
    Only child, junior and young adult licence holders may fish for sports fish;
    No fly casting;
    No fishing from the paved area in front (western end) of the lake.

  3. Special Licences for the Disabled
    9.1 The Taranaki Fish and Game Region is authorised to issue special licences authorising any disabled person, within the meaning of the Disabled Persons Employment Act 1960, to fish for sports fish by any means that would otherwise be unlawful.

  4. Revocation—The notice published in the supplement to the Gazette of 1 September 1994, No. 89, page 2694, titled District Anglers (Taranaki Fish and Game Region) Notice 1994 and Amendments No. 1 and No. 2 to that notice, are hereby revoked.

    The Tuki Tuki River downstream from the SH50 road bridge, 1 June–30 September
    excluding tributaries;
    The Ngaruroro River downstream from its confluence with the Taruarau River, excluding tributaries; 1 June–30 September
    The Tutaekuri River downstream from its confluence with the Mangaone Stream, excluding tributaries; 1 June–30 September
    The Waipawa River downstream from its confluence with the Mangaonuku Stream, excluding tributaries; 1 June–30 September
    The Porangahau River downstream from its confluence with the Mangatahi Stream, excluding tributaries; 1 June–30 September
    The Karamu Stream, excluding tributaries; 1 June–30 September
    All lakes of the region;
    Lakes Tutira and Waikopiro, except Sandy Creek and the lake outlet channel; all year
    The Tuki Tuki River where it passes through the Tuki Tuki wildlife refuge, and between the confluence with the Tukipo River and the Mount Herbert Road Extension; all year
    The Waipawa River within the boundaries of the Waipawa Borough; all year
    Lake Opouahi; all year
