spring or river flowing into or out of either of these lakes, or that part of Lake Tarawera which lies outside a line, the ends of which are shown by landmarks on the shore, running parallel to, and 200 metres from, and, the shores of Kariri Point and Rangiuru Bay.
- Fly Fishing Only Waters
Fly fishing only shall be used in the following waters;
The Ohau Channel;
The Tarawera River from Lake Tarawera (excluding the trout spawning sanctuary) to the Tarawera Falls;
The section of Rangiuru Bay defined by landmarks and extending 200 m offshore;
All waters contained within 200 metres arc around the centre of every stream, spring, or river flowing into or out of lakes Rotoiti, Tarawera, Okataina, Rotoma; Rotoehu, Waikaremoana, Waikareiti and Rotorua excluding the Utuhina Stream downstream of the Lake Road bridge where spinners may also be used;
The Horomanga River and tributaries;
The Hopuruahine, Aniwanwi, Korokoro, Mokau streams and all tributaries of these streams;
The Ruakituri and Hangaroa Rivers (including their tributaries) upstream from the base of the Te Reinga Falls;
The Wharekahoe River;
The Waioeka River and Opato Stream (including tributaries) upstream from their confluence;
Lakes Whakamarino and Kaitawa (including all inflowing streams);
The Waimapu Stream.
- Bait Fishing Waters
No licence holder shall use any bait except for natural fly, natural insect or natural crustacean (excluding koura) in any waters of the Eastern Fish and Game Region.
- Use of Boats
7.1 No licence holder shall fish for trout from a boat in the following waters:
a) the Tarawera River from its outlet from Lake Tarawera to the Tarawera Falls situated approximately 2500 metres downstream;
b) that section of the Tarawera Outlet enclosed by landmarks;
c) in the designated winter shoreline fishing areas on lakes Tarawera, Rotoiti and Okataina (Schedule 2, Clause 2), from the 1st day of July to the 30th day of September;
d) the Ohau Channel and those sections in lakes Rotorua and Rotoiti that are within a 200 metre radius from the centre of the Ohau Channel as indicated by landmarks.
7.2 No licence holder shall fish for trout from any boat in waters reserved for artificial fly fishing as specified in Schedule 2, Clause 5, or within waters contained within a 200 metres radius around the centre of the Utuhina Stream mouth, unless the boat is securely anchored with no more than two anchors;
- Daily Bag Limits
8.1 The Ruakituri River and tributaries above the Waitangi Falls

The Horomanga River and tributaries
2 trout
Lake Aniwhenua and the Rangitaiki River from the lake to the Horomanga confluence
2 trout
All other waters
8 trout
8.2 Any licence holder taking a male trout within 200 m radius of the mouth of the Te Wairoa Stream, Lake Tarawera shall return it to the water immediately with as little injury as possible.
8.3 No licence holder shall kill more than 2 brown trout in a daily bag limit of 8 trout from Lake Waikaremoana.
- Minimum and Maximum Length to be Taken
Lakes Rotorua, Okataina, Rotoma, Rotoehu, Okareka, Rotomahana, Rerewhakaaitu, Tikitapu, Ngapouri, Ngahewa, Waikaremoana, Waikareiti, Whakamarino, Kaitawa or their tributaries. Lake Rotoiti, the Ohau Channel and the Kaituna River above the flow control structure. Lake Tarawera including that section of the Tarawera River between the downstream end of the trout spawning sanctuary at the Tarawera Outlet and the falls approximately 2500 metres downstream from the Outlet

- Hours of Fishing
No licence holder shall fish for any sports fish between 12 midnight and 5 a.m.
- Revocation
The notice published in the supplement to the Gazette, 1996, No. 100, page 2611, titled Anglers (Eastern Fish and Game Region) Notice 1996, is hereby revoked.
TARANAKI FISH AND GAME REGION
Reference to Description: Gazette, No. 83, of 24 May 1990, at page 1861.
- Interpretation
“Fly Fishing”, in the Taranaki Fish and Game Region means to fish for sports fish with fly rod, fly reel, fly line and artificial fly.
- Open Season
2.1 The following waters are open all year:
Lake Rotomanu;
Lake Mangamahoe, excluding the Waiwhakaiho inlet;
Opunake Lake;
Virginia Lake;
Lake Namanu;
Waiwhakaiho River downstream from the end of Rimu Street extension;
Huatoki Stream downstream from Brois Street bridge;
Waitara River downstream from the Manganui River confluence;
Whanganui River (excluding tributaries);
Mangawhero River (excluding tributaries) downstream from the “golf course” bridge at State Highway No. 49;
Tokiahuru Stream downstream from the bridge at State Highway No. 49;
Waitaki Stream downstream from the bridge at State Highway No. 49.
2.2 The following waters are open from 1 October–30 June:
Manganuiateao River and its tributaries;
Retaruke River and its tributaries;
Tokiahuru Stream upstream from the bridge at State Highway No. 49;
