5. Artificial Fly Fishing Only Waters
5.1 "Artificial fly fishing" in the Auckland/Waikato Region means to fish for with fly rod and fly reel and fly line and artificial fly, but with no additional weight to facilitate casting.
Artificial fly fishing is the only fishing method for sports fish allowed in the following waters and their tributaries:
Waipapa River from its source to the Hunua Falls
Kauaeranga River
Komata Stream
Maratoto Stream from its source to the ford of the old Whangamata Track
Kakahu Stream (north-east of Okoroire)
Waipapa River upstream from the first waterfall situated approximately 0.5km from Lake Waipapa
Mangatutu Stream from its source to the Lethbridge Road Bridge
Puniu River from its source to the Bayley Road Bridge
Kanihiwha Stream
Ngakoaoahia Stream from its source to the bridge on Pirongia-Kawhia roadway
Awakino River from its source to the Mahoenui Bridge
Waipa Stream (near Putaruru, also known as the Little Waipa Stream) from its source to the Horahora Road Bridge (which is deemed to be the mouth)
Waione Stream
Okauaka Stream
6. Spin Fishing and Artificial Fly Fishing Only Waters
Spin fishing and artificial fly fishing are the only fishing methods for sports fish allowed in rivers or streams in the Auckland/Waikato Fish & Game Region including the Mangatangi Reservoir, excluding any waters specified in Sections 5, 7 and 8 of this Schedule.
7. Spin Fishing, Artificial Fly Fishing and Bait Fishing Only Waters
Spin fishing, artificial fly fishing and bait fishing are the only fishing methods for sports fish allowed in the following waters:
Waikato River
Lake Arapuni
Lake Karapiro
Lake Waipapa
Lake Maratoto
Lake Moananui
Lake Ototoa
Lake Whatihua (Thomsons)
Lake Otamatearoa (Muirs)
Lake Parkinsons
Waipa River downstream from Toa Bridge (some 16km upstream from Otorohanga)
Marokopa River downstream from its confluence with the Mangatuahua Stream
Ohinimuri River downstream from the Victoria Street Bridge at Waihi
Waihou River downstream from the Okoroire Falls
Whanganui River downstream from its confluence with the Whakapapa River
Ongarue River downstream from its confluence with the Waima Stream
Mokau River downstream from the Awakino Gorge (Mangatoa Bridge)
Mangatawhiri River from the bridge on SH2, to its confluence with the Waikato River
All lakes and ponds, excluding any water specified in Sections 6 and 7 of this part of this notice
8.0 Coarse Fishing Waters
8.1 There is no restriction on lures or baits in the following waters:
Whanganmarino River
Mangatawhiri River from the bridge on SH2, to its confluence with the Waikato River
All lakes and ponds, excluding any water specified in Sections 6 and 7 of this part of this notice
8.2 In respect to all waters not specified in Section 8.1 of this notice, with the written authorisation of the Manager of the Auckland/Waikato Fish & Game Council in the licence holders possession and available for production on demand, there is no restriction on lures or baits for a licence holder participating in a fishing competition for rudd, perch and tench, provided all other species of sports fish landed must be immediately returned to the waters and released.
8.3 A licence holder participating in a fishing competition for perch, tench or rudd may have two assembled rods and running line provided only one of which shall be used for fishing at any one time.
8.4 A roach pole may be used to fish for and take perch, tench and rudd.
9. Daily Bag Limit of Killed Sports Fish
Whakapapa River and its tributaries from its source to the confluence with the
Piopiotea Stream 2 trout or salmon
Awakino River 2 trout or salmon
All other waters 5 trout or salmon
5 perch, rudd or tench
10. Minimum Length
10.1 The minimum length for trout or salmon shall be:
Lake Puke 220 mm
Lake Moananui 220 mm
Lake Tomarata 220 mm
Lake Ototoa 220 mm
Lake Whatihua (Thomsons) 220 mm
Lake (Lake) 220 mm
Lake Otamatearoa (Muirs) 220 mm
Waikou River 220 mm
Waimakariri Stream 220 mm
All other waters 300 mm
10.2 Trout or salmon landed under the minimum length shall be immediately returned to the water and released.
EASTERN FISH AND GAME REGION
Reference to Description: Gazette, No. 83 of 24 May 1990 at page 1861 (S.O. Plan 58495).
1. Interpretation
“Fly fishing” in the Eastern Fish and Game Region means to fish for sports fish with fly rod, fly reel, fly line and artificial fly, but with no additional weight to facilitate casting.
“Landmark” means a black and yellow ringed post or buoy.
“Spinner” does not include any lure which exceeds 40 grammes in weight.
“Sports fish” in the Eastern Fish and Game Region includes any hybrid of the sports fish species listed in the First Schedule.
