Classification and Naming of a Reserve

Pursuant to the Reserves Act 1977, and to a delegation from the Minister of Conservation, the Regional Conservator, Northland Conservancy, Department of Conservation, hereby classifies the reserve, described in the Schedule hereto, as a scenic reserve, for the purposes specified in section 19 (1) (a) of the Reserves Act 1977, subject to the provisions of the said Act and further declares that the said reserve shall hereafter be known as the Matarau Island Scenic Reserve.

North Auckland Land District—Whangarei District

3.4444 hectares, more or less, being part Te Awa-Poka-a-Taraweta Block, also known as Matarau Island, situated in Block III, Purua Survey District. Balance certificate of title 10D/1285.

Dated at Whangarei this 27th day of November 1996.

In the notice No. 2794 dated 18 April 1995 and published in the New Zealand Gazette, No. 39, page 1047 of 27 April 1995, in the Schedule thereto amend area “3750 ha” to read “3750 m², more or less, being Allotment 480, Parish of Manurewa, partly contained in certificate of title 78D/189”.

In the notice No. 8505 published in the New Zealand Gazette, No. 124, page 3663 of 24 November 1994, in the Schedule thereto amend “5.0000 ha being Taumaihi Island being part of Motiti Pt B as contained in certificate of title 6C/1.196” to read “5.0000 ha being Taumaihi Island being part of Motiti Pt B as contained in certificate of title 6C/1196”.

Notice Cancelling a Maori Reservation

Whereas at Wellington on the 10th day of July 1887, and published in the New Zealand Gazette, 30 July 1887, No. 123, page 3532, pursuant to section 439 of the Maori Affairs Act 1953, the land described in the Schedule here to was declared to be a Maori reservation for the purposes of maintaining a historic and traditional site and ancient burial ground, and for a marae site for the common use and benefit of the Hawkes Bay Catholic Maori Mission and the Roman Catholic Parish of Saint Mary’s, Taradale.

Now therefore, pursuant to section 338 (5) (b) of Te Ture Whenua Maori Act 1993, on the recommendation of the Maori Land Court, the Maori reservation created by notice dated on the 10th day of July 1887 and published in the New Zealand Gazette, 30 July 1887, No. 123, page 3532, is hereby cancelled.

Notice Redefining the Purposes of a Maori Reservation

Pursuant to section 338 (5) (c) of Te Ture Whenua Maori Act 1993, on the recommendation of the Maori Land Court, the purposes for which the Maori reservation in respect of the land described in the Schedule hereto, were created by notice published in the New Zealand Gazette, No. 38, page 924 of 9 June 1955, are hereby redefined as being for the purpose of a marae for the common use and benefit of the Ngati Reko hapu and members of the Waikato Tribes and to be known as Waikeri Marae.

Setting Apart General Land as a Maori Reservation

Pursuant to section 338 (1) of Te Ture Whenua Maori Act 1993, on the recommendation of the Maori Land Court, the general land described in the Schedule hereto, is hereby set apart as a Maori reservation for the purpose of an urupa for the common use and benefit of the owners and their descendants being by and large members of the Ngati Parekaitini and Ngati Te Puta hapu and to be known as Tawataha Urupa.
