(f) that part of Lake Tarawera abutting the western shoreline between landmarks at either end of the beach known as the Te Wairoa landing and extending from that shoreline for a distance of 100 metres into Lake Tarawera;

(g) that part of Lake Rotoiti abutting the southern shoreline between landmarks situated at Ruato and Hinehopu extending from that shoreline for a distance of 100 metres into Lake Rotoiti;

(h) that part of Lake Okataina abutting the northern shoreline between landmarks situated at Te Koutu Point and west of the Okataina lodge and extending from that shoreline for a distance of 100 metres into Lake Okataina;

(i) the Kaituna River downstream of the Lake Rotoiti flow control structure;

(j) the Tarawera River downstream from the Tarawera Falls;

(k) the Whakatane River downstream of its confluence with the Owaka Stream;

(l) the Waimana River downstream of the Reid Road bridge;

(m) the Wairoa River downstream of the Te Reinga Falls;

(n) the Waikaretaheke River below the Piripaua powerhouse;

(o) Lake McLaren and the Ruahihi Canal;

(p) the Wairoa River below Lake McLaren;

(q) Lakes Matahina, Flaxy, Aniwhenua, and the Aniwhenua, Flaxy, and Wheao canals, including the Wheao River downstream of the powerhouse;

(r) the Rangitaiki River downstream of the confluence with the Otamatea Stream (excluding that section of the river 80 metres downstream of the Aniwhenua Barrage as specified in clause 4 (1) (e);

(s) Lake Waikaremoana;

(t) Lake Waikareiti;

(u) the Ngongotaha, Waiteiti, Hamurana and Awahou streams below the main-road bridges;

(v) the Utuhina Stream below the Lake Road bridge;

(w) the Waiu River downstream of its confluence with the Waikaretaheke River;

(x) the Waioeka River below its confluence with Cruen Creek (Aro Aro Bridge);

The open season shall be from the 1st day of October in any one year to the 30th of September in the following year.

  1. Closed season—(1) In the waters known as:

(a) all streams that flow into Lake Tarawera and that portion of the Tarawera River enclosed by landmarks and extending approximately 150 metres downstream from landmarks at the river mouth to landmarks within the river, otherwise known as the Tarawera Outlet trout spawning sanctuary;

(b) the Utuhina Stream above the Pukehangi Road bridge and all tributaries of this stream;

(c) the following streams and their tributaries which flow into Lake Rotoiti:

(i) the Waiohewa, Waiohewa, Waingaehe, Waimata and Waikuta streams;

(ii) the Hamurana stream above the main-road bridge;

(iii) the Awahou Stream above the main-road bridge;

(d) all springs, streams, and their tributaries which flow into or from the following lakes:

(i) lakes Rotoma, Rotoehu, Rotomahana, Rerewhakaaitu, Rotokakahi, Okareka and Okataina;

(ii) Lake Rotoiti, except the Ohau Channel and the Kaituna River;

(e) the Rangitaiki River for a distance of 80 metres below the Aniwhenua Barrage;

(f) all waters in which trout are held in captivity for display, rearing, or other purposes, or from within a distance of 80 metres from such waters or other such distances as defined by landmarks;

The closed season shall be from the 1st day of October in any one year to the 30th of September in the following year.

  1. Fishing prohibited between 12 midnight and 5 a.m.—No licence holder shall fish for, take or attempt to take, any sports fish between 12 midnight and 5 a.m.

  2. Authorised Tackle—(1) No licence holder shall fish for, take or attempt to take, any sports fish except by using a single rod and running line.

(2) Notwithstanding subclause (1) of this clause, when landing a sportsfish, a hand-held landing net may be used to secure or land any such fish.

(3) No licence holder shall use:

(a) more than 2 separate lures or hooks;

(b) any double or treble pointed hook or any multiple hook assembly;

(c) any gaff or landing hook;

(d) any hook having a gape greater than 14 mm, measured from the point of the hook to the nearest point of the shank;

(e) any hand-line, stroke hauling gear, spear gun, paravane, firearm, explosive, spear, net (excluding landing net as outlined in subclause 2 of this clause), trap or any unsportsmanlike device or gear;

(f) any electric fishing gear, except for the purposes of duly authorised scientific investigations or data collection;

(g) any poison or medicinal or chemical compound other than a preparation used solely to float or sink a fly or line;

(h) any preparation to attract fish;

(i) any metal cored line or downrigger;

(4) Notwithstanding subclause 6 (3) (i) any metal cored line may be used in the waters of Lake Rotoma or those parts of Lake Okataina or Lake Tarawera which lie outside a radius 300 metres from the centre of the mouth or mouths of every stream, spring or river flowing into or out of either of these lakes, or that part of Lake Tarawera which lies outside a line, the ends of which are shown by landmarks on the shore, and which is 200 metres from, and parallel to, the shores of Kariri Point and Rangiuru Bay.

  1. No licence holder shall foulhook or attempt to foulhook any trout.

  2. Daily Bag limit—(1) No licence holders shall on any one day kill or have in his or her possession:

(a) more than two trout from the Ruakituri river and tributaries above the Waitangi Falls, and the Horomanga river and tributaries;

(b) any male trout from within a radius of 200 metres from the centre of the mouth of the Te Wairoa Stream, Lake Tarawera;

(c) more than two trout from Lake Aniwhenua;

(d) more than two brown trout in a daily bag limit of eight trout from Lake Waikaremoana;

(e) more than eight trout in all other waters.
